Hi, I looked through the few books I have and then google. I only found a couple listings. One mentioned that Camp Rogers was believed to be near Tupelo, but that it's exact location and purpose was basically unknown. The listing mentioned the 40th MS INF being stationed at Camp Rogers Sept - Oct of 1862 and that they were engaged at the Battles of Iuka, Corinth and Hatchie Bridge during these months. During the description of the Battle of Iuka, the 3rd TX regiment was mentioned. Retracing there progress through the war at this time may also help in locating the camp. I looked through some of my maps and then online; I believe that all those battles are near the present US HWY. 72. which seems to follow a road or railway that was present in 1862 from Decatur, AL to Memphis, TN.. www.sonofthesouth.net/prod0131.htm pictures a June 1862 map from the Harpers Weekly magazine showing Confederate controlled areas. According to the map, it seems that area was one the front lines. I imagine they were fighting for control of the railways as the western front seems to follow the Memphis to Vicksburg RR. This being the case, you may want to look around in Marshall Co. to see if a branch line ran nearby in Holly Springs. I will continue to look trough maps that I have in books and if I find anything I will post it to the list.
