He asked if I would try to document De Caro's service. Because he was a private in the infantry I'm guessing he would probably not have carried the sword during the war. That's why I take it to be of the GAR variety. The address on the sword also places De Caro in NY, where he probably moved after the war. De Caro died circa 1909. Would you read it that way?
