His name was John Hiram Leonidas Moody, but he went by the name John H. Moody all his life. I found his service for the Confederacy, but there are 6 or 7 John Moodys who served for the Union on the Soldier's and Sailor's System, and I don't think any of those listed are among the groups of galvanized yankees who were released from Rock Island Prison. From the research I have done, these galvanized yankees served from Rock Island were in the 2nd and 3rd U.S. Volunteers. Neither of these regiments (or whatever they are) come up in a search for the name Moody. Any other suggestions?
