The soldiers in the old print/painting are wearing red kepis/forage caps. The epaulettes and pants are also red. The jackets, some short & some long, are blue. They are also attired in white "gaiters." Found a signature under the old matting -- Alfred-Emile Gaubault. Online research tells us he was a French Painter, who died in the 1880s & who specialized in military scenes. So, we may be looking at a French unit in Algeria.
