Thank you. I think, the more I look at this monument, that it must have been put up by the family and with the military caption added for his civil war service. I have sent the messages to a cousin in Indiana and I think they will go with "restoring" it as it is a beautiful monument and the upright portion is off the base. I don't know what all that involves but am sure they feel as I do - restoring it vs a newer military marker. Thank you so much for your input and help.
