Carol, In my Great Great Grandfather's memoirs, he mentioned Union Ironclads several times as "monitors." Evidently, after the original U.S.S. Monitor was built, if a similar Union Ironclad was seen and the name unknown, the Southern forces simply called it a "monitor." Edward
