Other news of the day included the Battle of Pea Ridge (Arkansas), "evacuation" of Manassas, and conscription in South Carolina. Mike, Great newspaper articles from the times. I have to ask where you found them? I have also read numerous articles from newspapers of those years from two books I have. The books are titled Civil War Extra: A Newspaper History of the Civil War. Volume I covers Nat Turner to 1863 and Volume II covers 1863 to 1965. The books were compiled from the newspaper collection of Eric C. Caren. The books also contain a lot of advertisements for businesses, plus recruiting ads. The print is pretty tiny and most times I have to read the articles with a magnifying glass, but they're well worth reading. One other way I've found the articles easier to read is to copy what I want to read on my all in one printer/scanner/fax/copier and enlarging the size. Again, good articles and thanks for sharing.
