Hi, I'm sure they've been there before, but lately I've noticed glasses for sale on the web called either Civil War era snipers glasses or sharp shooter glasses. They have metal frames and lenses that are usually a frosted amber color with a transparent amber colored circle in the center. Were they really used for that purpose, and does any one know anything about their history? I've also seen glasses that tie around the head, and have wire mesh around the outer rim of the lenses to keep powder or other residue from entering from the side. The description says that artillery personnel used them. I had no idea that such things existed that long ago, and am very interested in learning something of their history. Thanks so much, Cathey
