    3. If it concerns the ironclad fleet and the torpedo boats, I would be very interested in it. I would be willing to donate the book to either the Naval Historic Center or the library at the Arleigh Burke Navy Memorial here in Washington, DC, when I am finished with it. Alice J. 3. Alice, I don't know what is contained in this book. It has sat here, on the same shelf, in the same bookcase, for 60+ years, that I know of. Where it came from I haven't a clue but my Grandpa was a champion auction goer so I assume it came in a box lot from an auction, probably bought for a nickel. I have a man's diamond ring that I'm sure came in just such a way. As far as I know I am the first person to open this book. Here's the title and author, maybe it'll tell you something. "Blue Jackets of '61" A History of the Navy in the War of Secession by Willis J. Abbot, Dodd, Mead & Co. 1886. One chapter is entitled " The First Ironclad Vessels in History" so there is some mention of them. I'd be happy to send it to you if you are still interested. 3. For the curious: This book is obtainable in reprint and on ABE [http://www.abebooks.com/] for fairly reasonable amounts up to very expensive. There is a possibility depending on the copy you have of it having more value [signed by author, first edition, condition etc]. Based on the number available it must have sold fairly well. The author was a historian and published many other books... I got 555 hits on his name at ABE. Mike
