Bill Not sure of what Stryker" is but here is some information on the gentleman. He was appointed by governor as a Brigadier General from New Jersey but apparently never served and he does not appear in the HDS general's listings nor on the Soldiers and Sailors System. He was named state attorney general in 1867; two years later, he became President Ulysses S. Grant’s secretary of the Navy, a post he held until the end of the Grant administration in 1877.
