That's for wood carriages - it gives a formula for brown paint to be used on iron carriages. ----------------------------- > I once read an article on a union ambulance that had been found and > was being restored which the body was french blue and the wheels I think were > red... ----------------------------- While I was reenacting with the Mifflin Guard somebody had built a wagon for the mess. Can't recall the wheel color but the body was blue, too. Don't know the source; always just believed they'd done their homework. Ordnance manual doesn't address this; maybe a quartermaster one? 1. [CIVIL-WAR] OUR State Flag
2. Slavery as the Cause of the War Between the States by Dr. Donald Livingston It has been said that the scholars of the League of the South, in their defense of secession, have not confronted the evils of slavery. We have long since confronted them-- as have all southerners. What has not been confronted (and what our nationalist historians guarantee will perhaps never be confronted) is the evil of launching a war that left 1,500,000 killed, missing, and wounded merely to consolidate a northeastern industrial empire. Lincoln was not able to win the war without finally directing it against the civilian population. This shocked Europeans, as it broke the code of civilized warfare that had been in place since the early eighteenth century. In violating the Geneva Convention the Lincoln administration became the first of the modem war criminals. To dignify this unexpected ourbreak of barbarism as being “about slavery” is the deep lie in the soul of the American liberal. Indeed it has almost become a part of American self-identity. Until it is honestly faced Americans will remain in a condition of spiritual and political adolescence. Catching up on "Chicken Little" Perdue flaggings ... Despite what the Downtown Atlanta Business District, the liberal media and now even the Republican Party of Georgia tell you, the People of Georgia still want to vote on Our State Flag. Despite the behind the scenes secret meetings and deals, the People of Georgia know that the issue will not be settled until we get to vote on Our Flag. In fact, the public displays known as flaggings are occurring at an increasing rate and we have trouble keeping up. So this article will combine several and provide links for more detailed reports. As an open message to our elected officials in the State: > Although you denied the People of Georgia the right to vote on our Flag > next year, we still get to vote in July and November. We do not support the > collusion of large corporations using Our money for an unholy influence on Our > State government. Are you going to represent the People of Georgia OR represent > The answer is also simple, this has become an issue about political correctness run amok and power. Well, so far the special interests and their cronies have been successful in preventing you from voting on your State flag and in forcing their politically correct agenda on you; but they can not stop you from voting 466 days from now. Put every day to good use. Source: Southern Party of Georgia

3. Whats so sad is that we continue the sins of our fathers. We are going into foreign counties like Pamana and Iraq, arresting the leader, taking over another nation, killing the leaders sons and showing their dead bodies off for the world to see. Something about that just doesn't sound cricket. There are a lot of unscruplous leaders but we can't kill them all. Just like the Civil War--there is a lot of misinformation floating around out there. Its probably just me but....can't they dertermine for sure on the Confederate flag if it was indeed for the Civil War or Slavery. They are still selling children off as slaves in Africa--as we speak. I'd like to see that stopped. I say let GA keep their flag--there is too much bad going on the take a hard line against a flag. 3. I am keeping a list of those Confederates who were killed during the battle at Shiloh and are buried there. So far, counting your relative, I have 104, mostly names that people have given me. I have a long way to go. I don't know any other method of finding these names. Now that I've seen his latest muskets for sale I have another question for him abt the New Jersey Militia. I noticed he states that the Colt special model musket's marked NJ were for the NJ Militia and I've been trying to find out what i can abt them since I own one of these muskets. From what I understand so far they were not active during the War between the States. If anyone can provide differant information on this please pickup on the subject. 2. Are there any spec's to what the colors of the carriages were for union and confederate? I've seen olive drab used for both sides in reanactments and sometimes grey or red for confederate but what were the actuals colors used for both sides? I once read an article on a union ambulance that had been found and was being restored which the body was french blue and the wheels I think were red but I've allways had my doubts if anyting was painted red for military use during the WBTS's. Any factual help would be appreciated, thanks, Ed

3. Well, I though I might be of help, but my book on Muskets, Rifles ect. didn't mention Tredegar. Anyway, according to what I could scrounge up on the net, it seems the Tredegar foundry was in Richmond, VA, the Tredegar Mountain rifle had 2 models, one was made of Bronze the other iron. It was Tredegar's smallest known rifle, all known examples having a 2.25" bore, however, the foundry did make the Williams rifle which had a 1.57" bore, so it is possible it had other bore sizes. Larger than that, the 2.9" bore Tredegars Navy Parrot Rifle at .. 3" bore Army Parrott rifle.. 4.2"bore Confederate Parrott rifle.... and .... the Tredegar's Brooke rifle with a 7" bore. Sorry I couldn't be of more help Keith Bailey ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mfsaggese@aol.com> To: <CIVIL-WAR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 09, 2003 6:17 PM Subject: [CIVIL-WAR] not geneology, but...... > Hello list, > I know this is off the usual topic but I have a friend who is looking for > the bore dimensions of the "Tredegar Mountain Rifle" , if anyone knows anything > about this please reply, I found one bore size of 2.25 but am unsure if that > is the only size they made.
