    3. Oh JOY!! I went back and tried again, this time just typing in the last name and not typing in a state of service. I got a LOT of listings of a John H. Sharon, I have exactly the same problem as you; especially the messages with my return address as the sender!!. My ISP has a virus firewall, and I use Norton Anti-Virus religiously. I'm averaging 50 or better per day since last Thursday, and it doesn't seem to slack off one bit. May have to do what you did and unsub and get new mailboxes. I've been busier than the proverbial one-armed paper-hanger, keeping my 'puter clean of the latest sobig worm. Somewhere, I am on a list with some subscribers whose computers are infected. Of course the virus-laden attachments do NOT come through any RootsWeb list, but my address is in a lot of address books, and I am not only receiving contaminated messages (81 on Wednesday) but messages are going out with MY return address as the sender. Not guilty, Judge, I swear! Computer experts say this will get worse. I am taking some steps to reduce vulnerability, I hope. Have purchased 10 web-based mailboxes, and I'll be unsubbing all lists and resubbing to one of those. Edward, I also am related to Grant, but I am also related to JEB Stuart. 3. His name was John Hiram Leonidas Moody, but he went by the name John H. Moody all his life. I found his service for the Confederacy, but there are 6 or 7 John Moodys who served for the Union on the Soldier's and Sailor's System, and I don't think any of those listed are among the groups of galvanized yankees who were released from Rock Island Prison. From the research I have done, these galvanized yankees served from Rock Island were in the 2nd and 3rd U.S. Volunteers. Neither of these regiments (or whatever they are) come up in a search for the name Moody. Any other suggestions? 3. To: A J Stewart -- Forgive me if I offended you. My father was a proud Southerner too and he did more for poor and underprivileged people with his time and wealth than any man I ever knew. He came from families where both sides fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, but I never once heard him blow his horn about that or any historic genealogy organizations. He was an example for me of humility and devotion which is why I am seeking to find his family's Civil War connections....not so I can be DAR or DOC. You can be proud of what and who you are, but it needs to go beyond that in my estimation. I certainly did not mean for my remarks to stir any anger that still exists over the War. I never knew a finer Southern gentleman than my father, but I also never knew a finer lady than my Northern mother....I was blessed from both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line. Please forgive me. Jean

    3. Sorry if I offended people with recent remarks because....... My interest in this list is to try to locate family who fought in the Civil War. My remarks were intended to say that I do not hang my hat on the importance of an organization, but what individuals do for their country, what they do to help others, how they treat others people. I have known too many people whose greatest joy in life is their membership in an organization and not how they function as individuals. Jean

If you don't like hearing Southerners talk about their heritage, then don't come here! I sure as heck have no desire to go up North and tell Yanks how to live and how to think.
