    3. I am trying to find the Civil War record of Thomas Dobbins Spencer whose family settled in White County, Indiana. I need to find out what company he was assigned to and would like to be able to get a history of their battles. Any suggestions as to what records to look at?? I am new to this but would really like to find out to include in our family history. Judy allent@hubwest.com

    3. GO TO htt://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ There you will find under "Soldiers" (7) SPENCER, Thomas. Forget the 7th he has middle initial of "M" The Regiment is listed - click on each Regiment and it's history comes up. Each was started in Indianapolis. If you click on the battles the story comes up. Hope this helps, Richard Callard -----Original Message----- From: Allen & Judy Thorsen [mailto:allent@hubwest.com] Sent: Saturday, September 06, 2003 9:25 AM To: CIVIL-WAR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [CIVIL-WAR] White County, Indiana Soldier I am trying to find the Civil War record of Thomas Dobbins Spencer whose family settled in White County, Indiana. McHenry listings at CW Soldiers & Sailors System http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm that could be him. One's for a private in Co I, 2d US Vol Inf, the other simply says US Volunteers. Might actually be the same guy - the microfilms listed would provide more definite info. From Dyer's: "Organized at Rock Island, Ill., October, 1864. Ordered to Dept. of Missouri and assigned to duty in District of Upper Arkansas along the Santa Fe Road from Little Arkansas River to Fort Dodge and Cimmaron Crossing. Stationed by Companies at Fort Riley, Salem, Fort Ellsworth, Fort Learned, Fort Zarah and Fort Scott, Kansas, on guard duty and operating against Indians until November, 1865. Mustered out November 7, 1865." Dennis

    3. Looking for information on my great grandfather John W. McHenry Confederate military records indicate that he enlisted in Co. B. 38th Alabama Infantry on March 29, 1862 in Wilcox County Alabama, By William R. Welch. Appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War, received at Rock Island Barracks, June 1, 1864 from Louisville KY. Roll dated Headquarters Rock Island Barracks June 24, 1864. Captured at Cassville GA, May 20, 1864 Reported as Henry, John W., on roll received from Louisville KY. Appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War. Enlisted at Rock Island Barracks, Ill., in the U. S. Army for frontier service, October 13, 1864. Roll dated Headquarters, Rock Island Barracks Rock Island Ill. November 7, 1864. I an trying to find out what unit in the U. S. Army he may have enlisted in and where he may have went from Rock Island. I visited Rock Island Arsenal recently and found out that the 3rd Regiment, New York Infantry was recruiting in that area at that time, but they had no information on that unit or who might have been recruited. Does any one have any info on the 3rd New York? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Mike Mauldin Kmm70525@cox-internet.com

I don't pray often enough, however your email touched me so that I just said a prayer for you. You sounded like you were scared and frightened and need some support and help during this time and I don't blame you but have you called a Hospice group near you? They will surround you with guidance, love, caring, and help during this time and help you get your pain under control. I've been to several of their meetings and they're just great! I have a friend who went through the Hospice group and she was able to control her pain so that she was able to function and continue in quite a few ways in her daily life while fighting this terrible disease. You have enough on your mind now fighting this and you certainly don't need to suffer any longer. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS! Glynda Ellman

They use their own doctor who isn't afraid to prescribe what ever it takes. I have more knowledge of "surfing" pain, there are doctors who can help with it, it is a mind technique so you can deal with the pain when you want to be able to read etc. Eliz

You will always be in the minds of your grandchildren, and I know they must have many fond memories of the many things you have done together in the past. I know our gracious Lord has you wrapped in His loving care, and will guide you along the path you are travelling. All my best wishes and prayers to you. Edward

    3. Have your Doctor prescribe Liquid MORPHINE. There is no reason that you should be in pain. My wife died of Cancer and I was with her 24/7. (She wanted to be at Home) The Pain Meds in pill form take up to 30 min. to kick in. Liquid MORPHINE instantaneous relief. At this time why worry about getting a drug habit. My prayers are with you. 3. For all of you who answered about where my G-G Grandfather might be buried, thanks. With your help I located a name buried in City Point Nat. Cem. at Hopewell, VA. Funny but it's 10 miles from the Scout Camp I used to work at. I will assume that J. Shoemaker, PVT d: 2/23/1865 is my relative. I am going to Virginia in 2 weeks and will visit. To get back to the important things, my prayers go out to Flora who is making her trip back to the Father. I know we all wish her less pain and peace on her journey. Prayer from folks that we don't even know is a blessing and hopefully will calm her. 3. Bob, I can't help with this specific battle, but this site lists cemeteries in Virginia where Confederate soldiers are buried: http://confederatecemetery.0catch.com/Virginia.htm This is a list of Virginia hospitals, where Confederate wounded were taken: http://www.members.aol.com/jweaver300/grayson/hospital.htm Good map of battles in Virginia in 1865: http://www.americancivilwar.com/statepic/va65.html Nancy www.geocities.com/twincousin2334 & www.thepastwhispers.com List Admin.: USCW-Battle_of_Seven_Pines; Carmichael; Cates; Fairley; Godbold; OldWestOutlaws&IndianScouts; Message Board Admin.: Missouri Civil War; Fairley; Godbold; Richmond County, NC; Caithness, Scotland I need some opinions. My G-G-Grandfather, Jones Shumate, served in the 32nd Virginia Reg. from January, 1864 until sometime in 1985. His last record was with the unit in the last muster 12/31/64. No further record of him exists to my knowledge. The last battles fought by the unit was with Pickett at Dinwiddie Court House and Five Forks. Making an assumption that he was killed in one of those battles, where might he be buried? Thanks for all the work done in helping folks out, Bob
