    1. [CIVIL-WAR] Something That May Help
    2. Edward Harding
    3. Hi List, For those of you who really want to take the time to find information about the War besides what's on the internet, I wanted to share with you one book I use a LOT for research. "The Civil War Day By Bay: An Almanac 1861-1865" by E.B. Long with Barbara Long, forward by Bruce Catton. ISBN 0-306-80255-4 This is a great book and can be found either in hardback or paperback at a good price. If you should run up on a copy, you might want to check it out. Thanks again for all the well wishes regarding my recent surgery. I see my doctor tomorrow and get my stitches out and all this surgical garb off. I'll probably be in another cast again for a while, but hopefully for not too long. Hoping all of you are doing well. Edward

    2. Keith..Thank You for this information and your help...Will be more specific....He is Pvt Needham H. Temples, Co. E Shubuta Guards of Clarke County, 37th Infantry Regiment. What I have found..They went to Columbus Ms and on to IUKA. Later in Sept and Oct., were supposed to be in the Camp Rogers....Another article says they went to Georgia in Aug. Then, He should be over there some place as his records shows he ( HE DIED IN HOSPITAL) on 20 Oct 1862...No Location listed... I thought the Hospital where he died may have been at the Camp Rogers??? Really getting confused as to where they really were during those months. Thomas T.

    3. Hi, I looked through the few books I have and then google. I only found a couple listings. One mentioned that Camp Rogers was believed to be near Tupelo, but that it's exact location and purpose was basically unknown. The listing mentioned the 40th MS INF being stationed at Camp Rogers Sept - Oct of 1862 and that they were engaged at the Battles of Iuka, Corinth and Hatchie Bridge during these months. During the description of the Battle of Iuka, the 3rd TX regiment was mentioned. Retracing there progress through the war at this time may also help in locating the camp. I looked through some of my maps and then online; I believe that all those battles are near the present US HWY. 72. which seems to follow a road or railway that was present in 1862 from Decatur, AL to Memphis, TN.. www.sonofthesouth.net/prod0131.htm pictures a June 1862 map from the Harpers Weekly magazine showing Confederate controlled areas. According to the map, it seems that area was one the front lines. I imagine they were fighting for control of the railways as the western front seems to follow the Memphis to Vicksburg RR. This being the case, you may want to look around in Marshall Co. to see if a branch line ran nearby in Holly Springs. I will continue to look trough maps that I have in books and if I find anything I will post it to the list. 3. Hi List, For those members on the list who are Southerners, Copperheads, and others who might be interested in listening to a lot of good Southern Music and other things pertaining to the South, Dixie Broadcasting Online is now free online to those who wish to listen. This used to be a pay per subscription online radio station but due to overwhelming response and sponsorship, it's now free. There is a lot of beautiful music, commentaries, etc., on it and I've certainly enjoyed listening to it. I'm not trying to promote this station, but just wanted to share if anyone is interested. If interested, go to the following site to be able to get it set up: http://www.wdxb.net/frameindex.html Hope all of you are doing well. I'm still quite slow here, but recovering. I get my stitches out and surgical garb off on Tuesday, December 16, and will get a new cast. I still have pain, but it lessens everyday. Again, I hope all of you are doing well. Edward
