    3. Thank you for being helpful. I have the muster rolls for that soldier, also. However, if memory serves me correctly, my Uriah Wilson Davis's estate was already in administration by the time this Davis deserted. 2. Trying to figure out if Major David Thompson SIMS was in the Civil War. He was b.1814 NC so in 1860 he would have been age 46. Is that too old for serving? He was listed in the 1860 census in Polk Cty, NC. By the 1870 census, he was in Edgefield Cty, SC. Any help is greatly appreciated. Sara

    3. Sara, I have gone thru ancestry.com data bases on civil war soldiers and did not find any Sims who might be your David Thompson Sims. There were literally hundreds upon hundreds of Sims soldiers; but no David Thompson Sims, or David T. Sims or D. T. Sims or D Sims (there were some D. Sims who served in the Union Army.) That doesn't mean he didn't serve; Just didn't find any match for him. I have seen civil war soldiers in their 40's and 50's; granted they are a small miniority. You gave him the title of "Major". Could you please tell me where that came from? 3. Ok, This is what I found but I dont know if its helpful. Source Roster of the Confederate soldiers of Ga 1861-1865 it shows Georgia 60th Co. G was the Evans Brigade, Gordons Division Army of Northern Virginia CSA from Whitfield County Ga, Whitfiled Volunteers There is no listing for any soldier that might be him. In the same books index there are no U. or Uriah Davis listed in any Georgia regiments however, It does show the following. Davis, Wilson PVT. August 31 1861 Deserted September 3 1863. Index shows Vol. 2 page 1021 I went to that volume and it shows this one was in the 23rd Company B Georgia Infantry from Union County. The index is for the above noted source its the centennial editon. I checked the 1995 Georgia Division United Daughters of the Confederacy Roster of Confederate Graves for Georgia for any name that might be Uriah Wilson Davis , and none are listed. I wish I had more. 3. Thank you for offering help. I found a site on tripod. I am looking for a Uriah Wilson Davis, called Wilson frequently, who md. Hannah Campbell in 1843 in either Haywood or Buncombe Co., NC. He was living in Gordon County, GA in 1860 census, but his estate entered administration in Walker Co., GA 9 Jan 1863. I have the photocopy of the estate administration. I can't find him in 60th Georgia Inf. however. The Museum of the Confederacy advised me that sometimes soldiers returned to their home area to enlist with relatives. Thank you for your offer. I would like to know when and where he died as there is a soldier of the same name who was reported as deserted, but the desertion date is after my Wilson's estate entered administration. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Frye" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2006 6:25 PM Subject: Re: [CIVIL-WAR] 60th Georgia Infantry, Company D >I have access to the Georgia Confederate rosters. > > Kevin Frye > Andersonville Historian / NPS Volunteer > www.angelfire.com/ga2/Andersonvilleprison/index.html > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Sybil Chapman" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2006 7:25 PM > Subject: [CIVIL-WAR] 60th Georgia Infantry, Company D > > >> Does anyone have a roster of this company? 3. Cindy, There is only one Joseph Poulter listed in the CWSS System, and he was a private in Company K, 148th Indiana Infantry (that's a US unit). The regiment organized at Indianapolis and mustered 25 Feb 1865 and mustered out 5 Sep 1865. Its entire service was guard and garrison duty in central Tennessee. If you're in Indiana, the State Archives has some resources (see http://www.in.gov/icpr/archives/databases/civilwar/resource.html ), particularly indexes to the records at NARA, but his actual service and pension records will be at NARA (see http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/military/civil-war/index.html ). The Indiana War Memorial also offers photos of battle flags in their collection. Noticed that they have the 148th's National flag in the inventory. See http://www.in.gov/iwm/battleflags/ Dennis ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 13, 2006 4:34 PM Subject: [CIVIL-WAR] Joseph POULTER-Indiana >I am looking for information on the Civil War service of my great-great > grandfather Joseph POULTER ...

    2. I am looking for information on the Civil War service of my great-great grandfather Joseph POULTER born 10 August 1829 in Terre Haute,Indiana and died 13 November 1895 in Indianapolis,Indiana. He is buried in Crown Hill National Cemetery,Indianapolis,Indiana. I am looking for the dates he served and his unit if possible. Would he have been Union? or Confederate? He is the only child in his family to have been born in Indiana as his family lived in Mercer Co,Kentucky. I am told his father (Ransdell POULTER) made shingles and helped in the building of Terre Haute and that is why he was born there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cindy Fregoe
