    3. Hello - I am seeking information about a CYRUS SPRAGUE and wonder if there is any connection -- CYRUS emigrated to Quebec's Stanstead County about 1869-70, married a MARIE SOUTHWOOD ( SOUTHARD, SOUTHWORTH, etc. ) and died 1909 in the Fitch Bay, Que. area... 6 children... I have been unable to find where CYRUS came from or his family, before he went to Quebec, and have different dates of birth between 1833 to 1846.......... Maybe, just maybe, there's a photo available either thru the state house or here: http://18thvt.com/conservation There's the CW Clipart site. They have corps badges http://civilwarclipart.com/Clipartgallery/clipart4.htm Dennis

    3. One other note regarding the difference in the Mother's name of the 1850 & 1880 Censuses. It did not say Mother in Law on the 1880 census, so I'm wondering if this was Harvey's or Eliza's mother. Also note the slight variation in age. In 1880, Tenith (sp) would have been 68 years old and Susan was only 65. Edward

    3. Here's a bit of genealogical information on Harvey J. Sprague that I hope might be of help. 1850 U.S. Census (July 25, 1850) Bridgewater, Windsor County, Vermont Father: George Sprague - Age 42, Farmer, Born in Vermont Mother: Tenith (sp) Sprague - Age 38, Housekeeper, Born in Vermont Children: Harvey - Age 9 George - Age 7 Polly - Age 4 Edward - Age 2 1880 U.S. Census (June 3, 1880) Woodstock, Windsor County, Vermont Harvey J. Sprague - Age 36, Laborer Eliza A. Sprague - Age 32. Wife & Housekeeper Children: Francis (Son) - Age 11 Mabel A. (Daughter) - Age 8 Edith (Daughter) - Age 3 Mother: Susan - Age 65 Brother: George - Age 35 Brother: Charles - Age 26 1890 Veterans Schedule: Eleventh Census of the U.S. , Special Schedule: Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, and Widows June 1890 House #52 Family #52 Rank: Private Unit: Company G 10th Regiment Vermont Infantry Date of Enlistment: July 21, 1862 Date of Discharge: June 22, 1865 Served: 2 Years, 11 Months, 1 Day No Disabilities from the War I noticed there is a difference in the mother's name between the 1850 and the 1880 U.S. Federal Census. In the 1850 Census, the writing appears as though it is spelled Tenith (sp), but in the 1880 Census, her name is definitely shown as Susan. Also, there is a difference in his enlistment date. On everything I found, including Mike Ruddy's information, it shows as August 8, 1862. On the actual census record on the Veterans Schedule, it was written in as July 21, 1862. I'm wondering if this was information Mr. Sprague gave from memory to the census taker. Evidently, with all of the other records showing 8/8/1862, I would think this 8/8/1863 is the correct date as it was taken from service records. I'm hoping this bit of information might be of some help on Harvey J. Sprague. Edward Harding

    3. Thanks Les... I've found two marriages of interest: "Lizzie" Bate, married October 1881 to Evander M Williams, in Davidson County. Apparently not Gen. Bate's daughter, as she died 1918 - and Jennie Mastin Bate died before 1909. Jinny "Bates" married Thomas Green Jan 20 1886 in Davidson County. This may well be her. for a "Jinny Bates" in 1886 Davidson County to a Thomas Green. I just ran across the Spring Hill Cemetery transcription that shows the "Lizzie" who married Evander Williams in 1881 apparently was born 1831 and died 1918, so this isn't General Bates' daughter. Jennie Mastin Bate would have been born 1857 or 1858. and if she married 1886, would have been 26 years old. Rebella died 1871 in Edgefield, outside Nashville. I believe Jennie is "Lizzie" misreported on the 1880 census as W B Bate's "neice", as the age corresponds exactly with that of Jennie in 1870 and "Effie M" in 1860. Hope I can find some additional info on Thomas Green in 1880 and 1900. Thanks again!
