    1. Camp Morton lookup needed
    2. Wolfman
    3. I need a lookup on the prisoner roster for Camp Morton, Indianapolis, to see if these two men were listed: Tilmon C. Howell - 1st TN Battalion (Colms'), B Company Silas Howell - 1st TN Battalion (Colms'), B Company Silas was taken prisoner at Ft. Donelson, 16 Feb 1864. I'm pretty sure Tilman was as well. Tilmon ended the war as a Private in B Company, 1st TN Mtd Infantry (Union Army), so switched sides, probably at Donelson. Thanks, Will Smith

    3. Dennis, Thank you so much for the information. I have the phone number to a couple of the historical societies. I am going to research Camp Mason next. This pic I was told after some one looked at it was taken they believe due to the stamp on back around 1864-1865. It is a nice pic. Again, it has no bearing on money just trying to find the proper home for it. I guess they have a Civil War Roundtable there also. Going to try there too. Thank you so much, Sandra Jones Michigan --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Next-gen email? Have it all with the all-new Yahoo! Mail Beta.

Macon Co Historical Society, Decatur IL: http://www.mchsdecatur.org/main.htm Decatur Genealogical Society: http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eildecgs/index.htm Also, there's the US Army Military History Institute at Carlisle PA: http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/Collection_Overview.htm#CivilWarPhotos They boast the largest collection of CW photos in the world. IIRC, the collection was a joint project with Civil War Times Illustrated. I forget the details of submitting, whether you get the original back or what. Suggest you drop them a line: [email protected] Dennis

    3. I recently bought a picture from ebay because I just didnt want it going to just any body. Kind of silly I know but I do not know who he is. I have scanned the picture which is an original 3X5. It also has a 2cent bank check stamp on back of picture. The photographer on back is E. A. Barnwell, Decatur, Ill. The stamp has written initials on it EAB in cursive. It is a Union Soldier photograph cut into a circular shape and applied to a paper 3x5 frame. If anyone would like to see this pic email me. I am going to do a google search on this photographer and this Decatur, Ill to see what troops might have came from there. I know nothing about Illionois troops. I will gladly send this picture free of charge to a family that can claim this soldier but I dont see how you could. Or I will also send it to a Historical Society in Decatur Ill if someone can send me in the right direction. Or even a Civil War Society that will appreciate it. 1. Civil War Units File CWUNITS New Version Available
    2. Carol Botteron
    3. Version 8.7 of the U.S. Civil War Units File (June 29, 2006) is available on the web and will soon be available from the Rootsweb server. (See below for addresses.) The Civil War Units File (CWUNITS) lists people who have information on a unit, ship, or group (often rosters, battles, etc.) and are willing to help others research it. Some are experts; most are "just" helpful fellow researchers. If you see a listing for a unit you are interested in, you can send the contact person email and share information. There are also listings for battles, organizations, counties, ethnic groups, etc. If you write to me, please do *NOT* include this message in your reply. My time and disk space are limited. Also please do *NOT* include attached files. Thanks! The following addresses no longer work and we were unable to find the people, so their listings have been deleted. If you are one of these people or know how to contact one, please email me. [email protected] (George Contant) [email protected] [email protected] (Walter G. Blenderman) [email protected] (Edwin Redkey) [email protected] (Jason Kladiva) [email protected] (Ronald A. Mosocco) [email protected] CWUNITS is five files (plus one for the FAQ) as follows: Part Filename Contents 1 CWUNITS1 USA national & states A-I 2 CWUNITS2 USA states K-N 3 CWUNITS3 USA states O-W 4 CWUNITS4 CSA national & states A-M 5 CWUNITS5 CSA states N-V Q CWUNITSQ FAQ -- frequently asked questions and answers Parts 1-5 include the intro as well as the listings. Within a state the units are organized by number (1st Infantry, etc.). The Civil War Units File is on the American Civil War Homepage: http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/warweb.html under the heading Rosters & Regimental Histories. I don't run this site. You can get the latest version of CWUNITS by email at any time: Send email to [email protected] (Upper and lower case count in the email address and everywhere else.) Subject: archive Text is: get genealog.cwunits1 get genealog.cwunits2 get genealog.cwunitsq etc. The period (.) has to be after genealog and before the file name. To get a listing of all of the ROOTS-L files, send the command get roots-l.catalog Another way to obtain files is via anonymous ftp. To do this, ftp to ftp.rootsweb.com using "anonymous" (withOUT quotes!) as your username and your net address as your password. Issue the command: cd /pub/roots-l/genealog/ You may issue a dir command to see a listing of files, use ctrl-s to temporarily halt the dir command, and ctrl-q to resume the dir command. The command for retrieving a file via ftp is: get genealog.filename substituting, of course, the proper filename for "filename" above. Notice the PERIOD between "genealog" and the filename. Then issue a quit command to exit. Questions and new listings for the CWUNITS file go to me at [email protected] Please do _not_ send me attachments. 2. You may remember that I mentioned this set of books the other day. I was particularly wondering if any library near to Central WV might have them!!!!! The complete Civil War DVD-ROM is available at _www.CivilWarAmerica.com_ (http://www.CivilWarAmerica.com) for $169.95. A separate CD is available for $69.95. This CD contains the official records of the Union and Confederate Armies. Regards, Glenn Jones

    3. You may remember that I mentioned this set of books the other day. I was particularly wondering if any library near to Central WV might have them!!!!! I found them! Nine miles from my home at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. Better yet, they are part of their lending collection! I borrowed 7 volumes today - the 5 volumes of the index and 2 others (called Series by Broadfoot) pertaining to West Virginia. I can hardly wait to get started using these this evening! FYI, West Virginia Wesleyan has a wonderful Civil War Collection! Summer hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Mon-Thurs and 8:30-noon on Friday. During school, they are open Mon-Sat, but I'm not sure of hours. JOY
