    3. Hi Dave As a county co-ordinator and list server owner I don't see any suicide here. I have many people that have donated records to the Genweb page and I am always happy to add them. I have had countless people write and thank me and others for adding them and allowing these records to be accessable to those out of the areas. Many people have found ancestors and links to other family members through records. As far as duplication information, its just part of life and don't think there is any way you are going to get a control on it. What ever one person has access or found another can do the same. 3. Thank you, David and Eugenia. With Rootsweb's problems, I don't know if I will be able to keep updating the Civil War Units File, but I'll try. Hoping that contact people who change their email addresses, and users who find non-working addresses, will tell me.

    2. No, I guess nothing is sacred anymore. I just find it so noble of Ebay that they would yank stuff off there that was from Civil War and other veterans graves, but they continue to sell artificats from Native American graves. I am a descendant of several Civil War veterans, one of whom was also a Native American. To me, it is just ridiculous the way this company panders to the public opinion that they agree with. They should not be selling artifacts from ANY grave, period. Kellie

I might be out of line here (too anti-PC), but I had an ancestor who was killed by Indians as he was conducting his freight transportation business in 1875 in New Mexico. 2. Tim Payne, You are krekt. This could be a Yankee plot. I always knew them Aggies were "good-fer-nuthins" and now it may turn out that they might be carpetbaggers too boot lak thet thar Hillry. Mah great grand pappy, Francis Marion Kerbow, and his brothers and eldest son all wore gray and I am quite proud of them. Their cause was "defense of the homeland". They were cotton farmers from Georgia, N. E. of Atlanta, rat about whar Sherman marched through. And the brothers all came to Texas in 1867. I sure hope none of 'em ever became Aggies. I must relate a story: A truck was seen in Port Canaveral, Florida with a Confederate Flag decal on the bumper. This was reported to the local Navy office and at least one civil servant spent time looking in Navy Regs for a regulation that prohibits the display of the Confederate Flag on government property. I believe he gave up. We are seeing an onslaught of politically correct moralists, attacking your heritage and mine. I am ashamed of Governor Bush and Texas A&M. So I went out and bought a Confederate Flag (3' X 5'). EEEEEEE-ha! and Tim, where in Virginia do you live? George B. Robert E. Lee. The painting of Gilbert ``Gibb'' Gilchrist was removed from the lobby of the research building of the Texas Transportation Institute. Institute director Herbert Richardson said he ordered the removal in late May after receiving a complaint that Lee's image carried racist overtones. ``I felt that the lobby of that building is not the place for a confrontation between admirers of Robert E. Lee and those who view him as a symbol of slavery,'' Richardson said Now, I don't want to start anything But I am getting sick of all this Anti-confederacy stuff! I was born & raised in Pa, Union all the way, But I don't understand how they can consider General Lee, who as most of us know Anti slavery himself, be held as a symbol of slavery???? It is just disgusting to me that Southerners are being forced to deny their heritage because some people refuse to open their eyes to the facts! I have always been pro union, I'm glad the north won, But the whole thing is a part of who we are as AMERICANS, north and South, General lee was one of the greatest soldiers this country has ever seen! I justhad to get that off my chest. ~Dolly>> Madam Dolly, Them critters that confuse "PC" with "the way we ought to live", and then confuse Robert E. Lee and the Confederacy with "immorality" are, in this case, all TEXANS. It makes me ashamed to see feller TEXANS acting so spinelessly. I am from Dallas, and all I can say about this episode is that I am glad I went to SMU and not Texas A&M. Today some of my best friends are Yankees <grin>, and I even work for the Yankee government.. but I am a Rebel at heart and if I lived back then I would have worn gray. I am NOT glad that the WBTS ended as it did, but history exists as fact and I am trying to accept it (though it is hard when those Aggies turn PC righteous). I have kidded Aggies all my life for just being Aggies, but this is a serious breach of Southern heritage. George B. Williams Manasdsas, VA SMU '66

    2. Does this mean that we get to take down all the portraits of the presidents that owned slaves??? How about I jump up and down and scream about Andrew Jackson, who hated Natives, just because I am of Native ancestry?? How about we remove all pictures wherever we find them of Malcolm X, who wanted a black separate nation and advocated violence?? Please people, whoever thinks of these things to complain about, get over yourselves and find something better to do with your time. Kellie

This may be the date that the family moved to Quincy, Illinois. On 7 February 1865 he mustered in as a 2nd Lieutenant, in (New) Company H, 43rd Illinois Infantry, for a period of one year, at Quincy. He is described as having been born in Germany, age 30, a cooper by trade, with blue eyes, auburn hair and fair complexion. His height was 5 feet 5½ inches. His military record contains the notation that he served with his regiment in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was discharged on 30 November 1865 at Little Rock. A document Herman signed on 18 December 1865 at Quincy states that he “made oath in due form, that he has made all required returns and counts; that he has turned over and properly accounted for all Government and Captured property ever in his possession to the proper officers, and that he is in no way whatever indebted to the Government.” His military career was at an end, but as a result of his military service, he was disabled by the aftereffects of malaria and perhaps amoebic dysentery. He applied for a pension due to his debilitating illness on 8 April 1882, stating that “while on detatched duty away from his Regt as Provost guard at Little Rock Ark from exposure he contracted chronic Liver disease & Camp dysentery or diarrhoea with swelling up of his belly & limbs or dropsical condition…That he was treated in…Post Hospl at Little Rock Ark fall of 1865 only and not by Regt Surg or Asst as he was not with Regt….That he is now totally disabled.” He died 22 July 1882 aged 47 years 9 months and  9 days according to his gravestone (slightly incorrect). Because he died so young, he left little paper trail, and I identified his German birthplace through information available about his brother Robert. A clipping from the Warsaw, Illinois newspaper, containing a brief death notice, was handed down to me. Historians in Warsaw had the same clipping. When the Warsaw newspaper came online and searchable, I found, in the next week’s paper, a complete obituary which told his birthplace: Osterburg, Prussia. 3. My great great grandfather, William Wallace Hall, served as a boy of 17 in the Westmoreland County, Stony Hill, Virginia Home Guard in 1864. His two older brothers, Henry C. and Robert R. Hall served in Company K, 9th Virginia Cavalry, through much of the war. If anyone has any information about, or is descended from members of the Westmoreland or Richmond County Virginia Home Guard or the 9th Virginia Cavalry, would love to hear from you!
