Hi Judy; This is undoubtedly Vern Orton. He and his wife Doris had a sway pole act and I believe that he died when the stakes pulled out of wet ground. Their signature was "Swing and sway the Orton Way". This is from my memory. You might want to check the archives of the Amusement Business BPI Communications, Inc., 49 Music Square, West, Nashville, TN 37203 Ph; 615/321-4250. This show business weekly was formally known as "The Billboard". Keep me posted if you find any more information. I don't have information on what city it is but there is a Lone Star Showman's Club in Texas. Also check the Circus World Museum at Baraboo, Wisconsin. Good luck.
