Family stories indicate that my ancestors, Carl and Joseph Zipperer, who lived in Wisconsin in the 1880's and 90's worked part time as musicians in the Ringling Circus. I'm sure these men did not travel any distance with the circus, but I wonder if there were frequently local musicians who played in the band.
