Hello, Wow this is great for what I need. Here is my story in short... My mother was born 5/2/45 Camden NJ, she was given up for adoption. Just recently we found out that my mothere maternal grandmother was a trapeze artist with the circus, we really dont know much except that my mothers last name at birth was Johnston, so I do not have much to go on. ***P.S.*** The following links are for my missing family members. The first is for a female born 5/2/45 NJ. And the second is for a male born 9/30/63 NJ. If this might pertain to you please visit my page. Thank you in advance. Looking for info on Georgie Telford who travelled with a circus in the early 1900s. We have very little information other than this and that he sometimes entertained people on trains with his victrola.
Family stories indicate that my ancestors, Carl and Joseph Zipperer, who lived in Wisconsin in the 1880's and 90's worked part time as musicians in the Ringling Circus. I'm sure these men did not travel any distance with the circus, but I wonder if there were frequently local musicians who played in the band. Would there be records anywhere of musicians for Ringling? judygibson00@hotmail.com

Was the circus that traveled to Argentina there around 1867? If so, how did they travel back to the US? G.D. Does anyone know of a circus that might have traveled to South America, probably in the late 1800's to 1900? My mother's uncle, Henry M. Snyder, b 21 Aug 1855 in Dutchess County, NY, according to family tales was an advertising man for a circus. My grandmother said he "went to South America and was maybe killed for money and presents he was bringing back." TIA Jean Chapman Snow snowstar@earthlink.net

Archives for the list at Rootsweb.com can be found at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Occupations/CIRCUS-FOLK.html Archives for the list at Yahoo.com can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Circus-Folk Both lists were created this month so be patient and allow the archives to build to a useable database. The yahoo list already has almost 100 posts -- I've lost track of the count on Rootsweb already. I am trying to find information on two brothers that I believe were with a circus and/or carnival for a time. Herschel Christopher Miller was born in 1871 (prob AL). John was born without legs and I have a picture of him in a costume with fringed epilets on the shoulders. John appears to be around 19 or 20 years old. By 1895, Herschel is in Texas and I believe that John has died. Any leads? ------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for ICQmail at http://www.icq.com/icqmail/signup.html
I am looking for information about the Campbell Brothers Circus that wintered in Fairbury, NE. According to the Jefferson Co. NE webpage: "From 1885 to 1913, the circus always opened their season in Fairbury but traveled nation-wide. Campbell Bros. was the second largest circus in the world at one time. " Specifically, I am looking for information about my father's grandfather and his family who were associated with the Campbell Bros. Circus. William Sidney Wallace may have been a bareback rider and/or horse trainer and his brother Wenn (Winn ???) was a clown. Their brother Harry Wallace was killed in a gasoline explosion on May 12, 1908 and was buried in the Fairbury Cemetery. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Elaine Dennison Tallahassee, FL
