CHUMLEY, that mrd. BETSY FORD, records indicate that this RBT. was bn. 1786 (per Tombstone), which is later than the "JOHN CHUMLEY/MARTHA" will written in Dec. 1780, naming "a" Rbt. as one of the heirs. There must be some significance to the 1786 birth of Rbt. & the JOHN CHUMLEY & ELIZABETH "DICKEN" mrg. in April of 1783, & later mrg. of ELIZABETH's daug., in Cumberland Co., Va.?) ( NOTE - The "big" question, through the process of elimination, subsquent events, including the evident proximity of the families in the 1830 Knox., Co., Tn. cns., IS: It is probable that Robert Chumley was the first born son of JOHN CHUMLEY & ELIZABETH DICKEN, therefore OLD ENOUGH to "keep at home" as opposed to, SALLY [Sarah] , JOHN & RICHARD, being "bound out" in 1794 & JAMES in 1796, The 1830 Knox. Co., Tn. cns DOES list ELIZABETH CHUMLEY as hd of the hsehld.& her age does match that of ELIZABETH DICKEN- Could be his mother!) (NOTE - * Until recently, seeing an actual enhanced photograph of the tombstone of Robert Chumley, from Barbara Meger, showing his year of birth as 1786, had felt that he may have been bn. in 1781, so many of my records may erroniously indicate "Abt. 1781" as yob..; 2nd. By Extrapolation, Robert & the girls, must have only arrived in Mo, after the birth of LOUIS in 1848 & before the 1850 Mo. cns.) Other Chumley Associated names living nearby in 1850 were; hsehld. #355-355 family of "ZEKE" or "JEFE" G. HUDSON (One of the MONTGOMERY CO., CHUMLEYs mrd. a "HUDSON"), #358-358 of WM. RUNNELS (blv. this is a variation of the RUNIONS name in CLAIB. Hi, All! I hope you are all doing well! I have decided that I need to pass along the list administration of my lists to someone else. With my schedule it is becoming harder and harder to keep up with everything. I have done very little research for the past year and a half and it does not look like my schedule is going to ease up in the foreseeable future. I will still subscribe to the list, but need to pass the responsibility along to someone else. I am hoping that whoever the new list administrator is that they will get the list active again. We have 75 subscribers in List mode and 17 in Digest mode! I believe that the Chumley list should be run by the same person as the Chumbley list so if you are willing to take over both please let me know!! It is not that much work to actually run the list I just feel that it should be run by someone who has the time to post messages and keep it active. Cyndi Chumbley List Administrator

I have some information on Robert Chumley, married Betsy Elizabeth Ford. I do list a father and grandfather for Robert....I list Robert's father; John Chumley, married Elizabeth Dicken. I list John's father (Robert's grandfather) as John Chumley, married Martha (fairly sure it is Martha Lockett). If you send me your mailing address, I'll mail you what I have. My e-mail address is rchumbley@dcmc.kuwait.army.mil, if you would like to contact me directly. I will attempt to e-mail a .ged file to you later this week....currently our e-mail / internet has "gremlins". I'd appreciate any infomation on Lewis Garret Chumley and Lewis Franklin Chumley and families. Thanks
I too have been doing some research and according to what I have the name is Garrett Lewis Chumley. I know his brother, Daniel Huff Chumley, my Great Grandfather, is buried in the Chumley cemetery in Arthur, Tenn. (seen the headstone myself). My father, Earl Kettron Chumley, went to Daniel's funeral there also. You might want to check with Travis Chumley at travchumley@centuryinter.net, that's who I got it from. As for Robert: I believe him to be the son of John Chumley who resided in Amelia County Virginia. I went to Amelia County Courthouse in Amelia, Va. and obtained a copy of a handwritten will for John Chum(b)ley dated December 11, 1780. In this document John Chumley bequeaths property, including slaves, to his wife Martha. He also leaves property to his children: Anne, Francis? (hard to read), Martha, ROBERT and William. How do we know this is your Robert (and mine)? I'm not sure! I'm not sure if John Chumley hand wrote this document or if someone else wrote it for him but the name Chumley is spelled CHUMLEY throughout the entire narrative and then the son of a gun signs his name CHUMBLEY. Why? I don't know! I guess it just wasn' t that important back then. Anyway that's my two cents worth. Terry Chumley
I was doing some more research and found a listing for Lewis Garrett Chumley married to Annie Hammock. I believe you just have the first and middle named inverted. I found listings for children..Van Weems, Emmer Scot (daughter), Tilmon, James Roy, William Wheeler, Landon (died at 24), and Garrett Neal. I have traced this line back to Lewis Franklin Chumley (b 1808 virginia...died 1880 in TN). Lewis F. being my great great great grandfather. I know Robert Chumley from Virginia was his father, but have nothing further. Do have any info on Robert? Thank you so much for your time Richard!
Looking for information on the family of Winston and Louise Hanson Chumley who lived in Chicago. They were married in Maine. I believe that they had a daughter by the name of Sandra, am not sure if there were other children. Would love to find their descendants. Leslie
