Author: n1nh1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.chouinard/354/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am only listing this obit as an FYI. I don't know him. Robert A. Chouinard, 74, a resident of Nashua, NH, died on the morning of Wednesday, February 29, 2012 after a long period of declining health. He was the husband of Anita (Stulgis) Chouinard for 31 years. Mr. Chouinard was born in Nashua on December 6, 1937, a son of the late Joseph P. and Ida M. (Ouellette) Chouinard. A resident of Nashua for most of his life, Bob also made his home in Wilton, NH. He graduated from Nashua High School in 1957 and served with the U.S. Army in Korea. As a young man, Bob was a radio announcer, but later found his life's work as a painting and decorating contractor. He was well known as a fine craftsman and took great pride and pleasure in his work, especially restoring his beautiful Victorian home in Wilton, where the family resided for 25 years. He also was a well-known disc-jockey. While serving as President of the New Hampshire Painting & Decorating Contractors of America, Bob spearheaded charitable work for many beneficiaries, including the Nashua Children's Home. He belonged to both the Nashua and Wilton Historical Societies and served as secretary of the Heritage Commission for several years. The Wilton Lioness Club made him an honorary member in recognition of the many hours he spent assisting his wife and the club members with numerous fund raising events. Robert was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Renee Marie Chouinard and his sister, Ida Spylios. In addition to his wife Anita, he is survived by three daughters, Linda Walker and her husband Joe of Nashua, Christine Chouinard of Paoho, Hawaii, and Nancy Thompson and her husband Mark of Greenfield, NH; six step-children, Wendy Bruneau and her husband Rick Swanson of Wilton, NH, Joseph Bruneau of Leland, NC, Judith Bruneau and her partner Susan Militello of Milford, NH, Paula Nickerson and her husband Troy and Jonathan Bruneau and his wife Ruth all of Nashua, and Todd Bruneau and his significant other Norma Gutierrez of La Crescenta, CA; as well as 14 grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Chouinard and his wife Grace of Weare, NH and Roger Chouinard of Fort Myers, FL; his sisters, Cecile Moraros of Nashua, Jeannette Discordia and her husband Ralph of Orlando, FL and Pauline Lynch and her husband Kevin of Litchfield, NH; along with a number of niec! es and nephews. SERVICES: A memorial celebration will be held in his honor on Wednesday, March 7th at 2 p.m. at the Crown Plaza Hotel, 2 Somerset Parkway in Nashua. He will be laid to rest with his daughter Renee at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Nashua at a later date. Robert was very fond of dogs, always had one at his side, and adopted several senior rescue dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, 24 Ferry Road, Nashua, NH 03064. My Chouinard line came to Patterson, NJ around 1870. The father being a Francois Chouinard born in 1821 in French Canada. I haven't been able to track him or his wife Cynthia Gerard (father Joseph Gerard) back to Canada. And I was hoping he might have some relationship to your Chouinards who were bound to NJ a decade or 2 earlier. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: katefcampbell Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.chouinard/129.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm looking for a Chouinard family in NJ as well, there's really only 1 in Jersey around Patterson Francois and Cynthia Gerard Chouinard/Swenord in the 1880s. I realize that's not the decade or even century you're interested in but they did have a number of children who seemed to remain in the area, looking into their descendants might help. There is also a Chouinard family association in Canada and they have a book tracing the genealogy down the different lines you might try there. Best of luck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: katefcampbell Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.chouinard/135.32.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for getting back to me, now I have a place in NY where I can start looking. I'm not sure if my Joseph Henry is a match for your Joseph Horice, Joseph Henry's parents were Francois Chouinard and Cynthia Gerard, her father was Joseph Gerard and lived with the family in 1870 and 1880 in Boonton, Morris, NJ. Francois and several of his sons disappeared between 1870 and 1880. I found a match for a Joseph Gerard in 1860 living in Chesterfeild, Essex, NY with the right age and is from French Canada and has a daughter Harriett living with him and his wife Louisa, Harriett is the name of one his grandchildren. So I think that family is a possible match for the Gerard side. I'll have to check how close that is to New Brunswick, NY. Do you know when your family moved to Wisconsin? I vaguely remeber there being a census in 1900 which had some of the missing brothers in 1880 being in Wisconsin. Or at least possible matches for the names and ages living together, the father was sti! ll missing though, but he would have been getting up in years by 1900. Perhaps the father and the older boys moved to Wisconsin with your relatives. Thanks for the information if I find anything I will let you know! My immediated great grandfather was Calixte Chouinard Son of Pierre Chouinard and Madeleine Chagnon. He married Elisabeth Labombarde in St.Marc Sur Richelieu, Canada. I believe the church burned down. It's outside of Quebec. The only Joseph I see married Marie-Madeleine Leclerc 8-4-1788 in St.Jean, Port Joli, Quebec, Canada.
