    3. This is the way my family census card is. I have a copy of the card. I believe that the first age was taken from the 1896 census then update later on. -----Original Message----- From: James Brown [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, June 19, 2006 6:43 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [CHOCTAW-SE] Can someone answer this for me? In the databases for assessgenealogy ( Final Rolls Database ) and rootsweb (Native American Data ) ...for (example )" Choctaw" Phillip McCann" Census Card # 2794 shows the same information from the Dawes Enrollment Cards, listing his age as 24. On the CD, that I have, NATIVE AMERICAN COLLECTION, from Oklahoma Historical Society, shows the same information , except it lists his age as 27.Why is there a 3 year difference in age, if the information for Phillip McCann was obtained from the same source. Also, is there an approximate date/time period from when this age was recorded on enrollment cards that I work with to calculate date of birth. I know the only exact way , probably would be to obtain the photocopy of the census card . Any assistance is appreciated. James ==== CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST Mailing List ==== Got a PROBLEM?? Got a GRIPE?? 3. James, I have found this as well. The census was taken in 1896, but many of the application were later. In most of my own cases I can determine the birthdate by entering the year as 1899. That is your three year span. On many of the original census cards, the birthdate was recorded on the card and then to the side is an age update of ususally three years. Hope this helps, April "Tammy J." <[email protected]> wrote: This is the way my family census card is. I have a copy of the card.
