    3. I don't know if the descendants changed the name..but I have found a marriage record that proves the name was change from Collins to Collinsworth..we have tracked him to Johnston Cty NC where he married Welthy Beaman Oct 8 1802.. Before that he used the name Zachariah Collinsworth..but he could have use Collingsworth. I don't know. I am at a total dead end with him. I think he was Choctaw or Cherokee and was hiding his heritage. It took me about 40 years to find the proof of this much..he was hiding. fawn ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Wilson To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 11:40 AM Subject: Re: [CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST] Searching How about Collingsworth? Could that be an alternate spelling? What are some of your other surnames? 3. Halito Fawn: Well then perhaps I can be of help. Since names were spelled phonetically at that time in history, it is a good likelihood that these names are in fact the same. Also, since they are Choctaw and Cherokee, I have Collingsworths who attempted enrollment in the Choctaw tribe. Perhaps there is a connection. If I had some more of your surnames, we might be able to make a connection. Although I have discovered my family's Choctaw connection, the predominant traditions in my family are Cherokee. That is why I believe that some day I will find an even stronger connection to the Cherokee. The names are: Christopher C. Collingsworth, MCR# 6533, application# 689, 694; Martha Jane Collingsworth (Cox, Hanks), (132), MCR# 6555, application# 701. These people attempted enrollment during the Dawes' Commission. I have many many more surnames from that period.
