Dept. of Archives & History, for those of you who are researching in that county: INCREASING AWARENESS IN THE LAUDERDALE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF ARCHIVES & HISTORY IN MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI The Lauderdale County Department of Archives and History is a part of the county government that is charged with managing county records such as court cases and other various documents. Much of the work done within the department is performed by volunteers who have an ongoing interest of the preservation of our local past. They research local community and church histories as well as their own families and donate their research to the Archives. This information is then published and placed in the Archives "bookstore" for sale. Other tasks that the volunteers have tackled include indexing marriage, census, probate court , land and other various records from microfilm so that others can have easy access to the information in book format.
