I've been told since forever that we had a full-blood Choctaw relative on my maternal grandmother's side (she descends from Hawkins/Collins/Blaylock families). Most of my great-greats lived in Winona, MS at some time or aonother. I'm looking to connect with others who have info on these surnames. >> Have you looked at the 1850 Clarke County, Mississippi census? There is a family of about 8 or 9 Hawkins who came frrom Alabama. There is also a Nathan Brady family which includes one Hawkins girl and Nathan's wife Margaret whose maiden name was Hawkins. My family thinks that these Hawkins were Cherokees. One of my aunts has an old family bible which notes that Nathan married a Cherokee in 1840.
