The Oklahoma Historical Society has these papers in OK City or any papers where the Court was held in OK. There are people that can help you locate what you need. They are open on Sat. If you see a mention to The American State Papers in the Court Case you look for, these books can also be found there or at a major library in the Genealogy section. Vol. 7 is worth reading. It may explain a few things and also make you ask more questions. Hope this will help you. In a nutshell, they were all eventually thrown out of court. All these records are stored at the National Archives in Ft. Worth, Texas. I am told there are 17 linear feet of boxes of documents having to do with these actions. dusty ----- Original Message ----- From: Joe Lee <jlee@centex.net> To: <CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 04, 2002 5:39 PM Subject: [CHOCTAW-SE] Lawsuit against US government in 1919 > My gggrandmother, Sarah Elmira Rogers Bryan , was a plantiff in a lawsuit aginst the US government in 1919, apparently on behalf of the Mississippii Choctaw Indians. The document I have has a title: > "The Mississippi Choctaw Investment Co. > " Claim Agent" > Apparently, the document is a receipt for clerical expenses re: a claim against The US Govmt for violation of Choctaw Indians Treaty of 1830. > The person who signed ( Im unable to make out the name but it looks like S. J. Cockwell), agreed to have the case prosecuted before US congress & other tribunals, if necessary, as a descendent of the Mississippi Choctaws. > Can anyone out there shed some light on this or direct me to where I can gain information.
