My mom recently uncovered that name of an ancestor who is reportedly Choctaw. He was born in Kentucky and lived in Illinois. He died in Oklahoma in a retirement home. His name was Wilkin Wilson. I have searched the rolls and not found his name. The 1900 census has him as Choctaw Nation Township 2. I don't completely understand that. I'm am just starting this adventure. I'm not sure really to go from here. Could someone maybe point me in any direction. Or does someone recognize his name? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This has been kind of a mystery for a long time and darn it I'm going to solve it! Thank you, Dana
Halito Dana: The National Archives might have some info on this person. The Retirement home might possibly have been operated by the Education division of The Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Medical Division was operated by the Educational Division until 1924, when the bureau created the Medical Division. You might want to check the National Archives web. There is also the possibility that the home was operated by the Choctaw Nation, in which case you would have to check with them. Since he was in a home in the Choctaw Nation, he was probably enrolled. You will probably have to track some more of his genealogy to see which surname he is enrolled under. Good luck.
