    3. Dusty: Thank you for the info. These articles give a good summary of what has occurred. They, however do not mention that the government was also held in contempt for destroying records. The people who destroyed the records were not fired and charged with a crime; but instead were promoted. You are also right in saying that whites had much of the scrip. The agent my ancestor, John Harper (Hopiah) applied to, was in league with 2 attorneys who were speculators in Indian land. It was known that he would deny people who appeared full blooded because he believed they were easier to swindle. He would then sell the scrip to the attorneys who would then sell it to whites. This is why there were so many whites on Choctaw land before they even arrived in Oklahoma. This can't be challenged in court, because the congress has closed that option off to us. The government protects itself and corporate interests from damage they have done to our ancestors and to us. Another thing the articles do not mention is that former secretary to the Interior, Gale Norton, was formerly the attorney for the group, "One Nation", which is dedicated to the elimination of the Tribes, scattering the people to the wind and the taking over of the land and resources by corporations. She is a continued supporter of this group . Imafo [email protected] wrote: Also be aware that a lot of Indians sold, traded or otherwise transferred their land script to devious Anglos indulging in the act of "Grafting". If this is the case, usually the records you get from the BLM will give the white's name with"agent for...", or "acting as agent for" and then the Choctaw's name that the script was issued in. We discussed the practice of Grafting at length a couple of years ago, so those posts should be available in the Archives. Go to: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/?list=CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST and type in "Grafting" where it says "query". You'll have to do it year by year, but you should get some hits. dusty ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2006 2:22 PM Subject: Re: [CHOCTAW-SE] Land Script > > Cyndi, I have no name to check the BLM GLO site, but I did find this > interesting info: > > _http://www.ndnweb.com/choctawremoval.htm_ > (http://www.ndnweb.com/choctawremoval.htm) > > which says: > " Unfortunately, since the release of the Arkansas land records on CD Rom by > the BLM, many people are confused into believing that their ancestors were > Choctaw, simply because the ancestor used Choctaw Script to purchase land in > that state, and the name of the Indian is listed in the records". > So, it they are not on the BLM GLO Internet site, they are on the CD. > Sincerely, > Fran Bolton > In a message dated 7/13/2006 9:19:34 A.M. 3. Halito James: I have to see if I have it in the hard copies of my records. I will have all of those records soon. If my memory serves me correctly, however, I believe I had gotten the information from the web site of the attorneys handling the case, which I believe is the American Indians Rights group. If you go to that site I believe you will probably be able to confirm this. Let me know if I am correct so that I can try to help you further.
