    3. That's not the way I understand it. There was an Arkansas Territory and there was an Indian Territory, but the demarcation was fuzzy because no one had really been there. The Choctaw were originally given land in Arkansas Territory and land in Indian Territory. At least that is the way the history books seem to be recording it. Some Choctaw did remove to Arkansas Territory in the early 1800's. Later the land swap was amended so that the Choctaw gave up their land in Arkansas Territory, and most removed then further west to Choctaw lands in Indian Territory. I am still reading. Maybe I will come across more accurate information on the exact sites. I am somewhat hindered, however, because I don't have as good a grasp of geography as I probably need to understand the latitude and longitude of it all. Do you have old maps? I only mentioned this source because many of the history books do mention families and individuals by name.
