According to the census she was born in MS, AL Indian Territory and the Choctaw Nation. Her daughter stated Indian Territory and the Choctaw Nation. Her grandaughter said she was 1/4 Cherokee. My question is... would it be possible to be a Cherokee and be born in the Choctaw Nation in 1820. By 1841 she is married and in AR. If their were Cherokees living in the Choctaw Nation does someone know approximately the territory so I could start to do research their. I do not know her maiden name. But her first husband was Jonathon Park and her second husband was Isaac Roop. Thank you for any reply
I have this CD from the Oklahoma Historical Society. When it put in just the card no., I get Rufus, Bettie, Bennie, John S. and Elizabeth, all listed as Choctaw by Blood. There is also a Cherokee card no.4489, but I presume that is not applicable here. In the space where it says 'Census Card #', just type in 4489 and see what comes up. Don't fill in any other space. dusty ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brooke Patton" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 14, 2006 12:17 PM Subject: [CHOCTAW-SE] Native American Collection CD / OHS > I have recently aquired a CD thru the Oklahoma Historical Soicety, which includes databases: Dawes Final Rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes and Index: apps for enrollment, 1896-1897. Hazel, enter: www.rootsweb.com/~itgenweb then click Choctaw Nation. There are several types of maps there - some can be enlarged. Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but think you might find it at that website. Angelyn

The microfilm from NARA can be rented through your local librarian. It used to be $3.00 or so and you could keep it a month. dusty ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Brown" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 09, 2006 4:01 PM Subject: [CHOCTAW-SE] microfilm > A local genealogy group, which has recently started in my area asked if I was aware of another source to purchase microfilm other than the NARA.....They had priced the M1186 microfilm rolls 39 - 56....which are the enrollment or census cards for the Choctaws ( Dawes Cards), when they inquired about them in fall 2005, they were quoted $34.00 per roll...now they are $65.00 per roll, which prohibits this purchase. Hi James, Are you just wanting resources for Dawes? There is a site called census microfilm. There's is $24.95 per roll. They have Dawes and census, etc. We have ordered from them before with no problems. http://www.censusmicrofilm.com/ Also, try the Oklahoma Histoical Society. They have lots of Indian records, newspapers, etc. They are $34 roll. Here is a link to their site. http://www.okhistory.org/res/ResDiv.html Hope this helps, April James Brown <[email protected]> wrote: A local genealogy group, which has recently started in my area asked if I was aware of another source to purchase microfilm other than the NARA.....They had priced the M1186 microfilm rolls 39 - 56....which are the enrollment or census cards for the Choctaws ( Dawes Cards), when they inquired about them in fall 2005, they were quoted $34.00 per roll...now they are $65.00 per roll, which prohibits this purchase. Go to google and type Woodcock Family and there are 'bunches' of Woodcock submissions. I didn't read any so don't know whether any were Choctaw. Angelyn
I didn't find a Woodcock on the Dawes Final Roll, but there was a Mary Luvenia Carlisle, age 19, Mississippis Choctaw Rejected. Uh, when you were wondering which side they were on, you weren't referring to the Civil War, were you?!
