    3. Lost his objectivity because he sided with the Indians! But what if the Indians are right! They (the government ) were destroying records and everything! This is crazy! I would like to see a copy of the article as well. I apologize for my excitement, but I followed that case quite closely for some time and I was quite disturbed by the actions of the government. Thanks for the info. Imafo [email protected] wrote: I'm not sure what's going on with the BLM site nowadays, with the present court battle. 2. Please be aware that the Vital Records Dept. in Oklahoma City - will assume Tulsa is the same since it is a state office - charges for death certificates, birth certificates, etc., whether they find them or not. I used to be able to order the certificates by mail: however, 3-4 years ago, they started requiring an enlarged photo I.D.....forget what else. I paid for a death certificate for my husband's grandfather who died in 1909: no certificate, but I did get charged for looking it up! 2. Wilburton is in Latimer Co.: I would go to google, type Latimer Co., OK, and check the entries there. I noticed there is a historical and genealogical society. The newspaper there would also be a good place to check. Some small-town newspapers have microfilmed their earlier editions and those are available at the town's library. Good hunting! 1. census cards
    2. James: In a nutshell.....yes! For reasons known only to themselves, the Dawes Commission chose to list enrollees in different categories (Newborns, Minors, By Blood, Freedmen, Newborn Freedmen, Minor Freedmen, Intermarried-White, etc.) You can have a family unit with two or more separate census card numbers. For instance: Jane Smith, By Blood will have one census card. Her newborn child, by blood will have another census card. Her Intermarried-White husband will have still another census card. However, this does not always hold true. I have seen families with members in separate categories, all listed on the same census card. I have no explanation why. Go figure!! dusty List Admin. ----- Original Message ----- From: "April" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 26, 2006 2:16 PM Subject: Re: [CHOCTAW-SE] census cards > Hi James, > > Is this (below) what you are talking about? > If so, then there aren't two separate numbers, just the one. > The Pitchlynn would be the father of Rhoda Howell. > > If this isn't what you are talking about can you be more specific? > April > > Dawes Final Rolls Results > Total Records: 2 Tribe Last First Middle Age Sex Blood Card Roll Misc Type Choctaw Howell Rhoda 86 F 1/8 174 342 DAVIS BB Choctaw Pitchlynn 0 M 174 P Prev [1] Next > > James Brown <[email protected]> wrote: > Re: I'm confused about ( Choctaw ) census cards. 3. If you will take a look at this page http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/enroll/guide.htm under search hints you will see that it is possible to find the same number on more than one card. They moved people from one card to another and then gave them a different number. I can't provide you with the answer as to why, but it was done and many times.
