    3. Halito Everyone: Here is a link to "The Native American Rights Fund" where you can look up the history of the Cobell Case. You can also Google Gail Norton and One Nation to get her history with that organization. http://www.narf.org/ This is a web that the NARF set up with all the info on the case. It includes the fact that Gail Norton gave orders to destroy records. http://www.indiantrust.com/ I hope this helps anyone who might be interested. 3. Halito Dana: The National Archives might have some info on this person. The Retirement home might possibly have been operated by the Education division of The Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Medical Division was operated by the Educational Division until 1924, when the bureau created the Medical Division. You might want to check the National Archives web. There is also the possibility that the home was operated by the Choctaw Nation, in which case you would have to check with them. Since he was in a home in the Choctaw Nation, he was probably enrolled. You will probably have to track some more of his genealogy to see which surname he is enrolled under. Good luck. 3. Dusty: Thank you for the info. These articles give a good summary of what has occurred. They, however do not mention that the government was also held in contempt for destroying records. The people who destroyed the records were not fired and charged with a crime; but instead were promoted. You are also right in saying that whites had much of the scrip. The agent my ancestor, John Harper (Hopiah) applied to, was in league with 2 attorneys who were speculators in Indian land. It was known that he would deny people who appeared full blooded because he believed they were easier to swindle. He would then sell the scrip to the attorneys who would then sell it to whites. This is why there were so many whites on Choctaw land before they even arrived in Oklahoma. This can't be challenged in court, because the congress has closed that option off to us. The government protects itself and corporate interests from damage they have done to our ancestors and to us. Another thing the articles do not mention is that former secretary to the Interior, Gale Norton, was formerly the attorney for the group, "One Nation", which is dedicated to the elimination of the Tribes, scattering the people to the wind and the taking over of the land and resources by corporations. 2. Cyndi, I have no name to check the BLM GLO site, but I did find this interesting info: _http://www.ndnweb.com/choctawremoval.htm_ (http://www.ndnweb.com/choctawremoval.htm) which says: " Unfortunately, since the release of the Arkansas land records on CD Rom by the BLM, many people are confused into believing that their ancestors were Choctaw, simply because the ancestor used Choctaw Script to purchase land in that state, and the name of the Indian is listed in the records". So, it they are not on the BLM GLO Internet site, they are on the CD. Sincerely, Fran Bolton In a message dated 7/13/2006 9:19:34 A.M. 2. I would like to read this also. Please send me a copy when you send the others. Thanks Mary -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2006 10:23 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [CHOCTAW-SE] Land Script I'm not sure what's going on with the BLM site nowadays, with the present court battle. I know it was shut down completely for a while, but is now back open. I got a notice a few days ago that Judge Royce Lamberth has been replaced because, as the panel of judges for the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia Circuit found, he had "lost his objectivity" when he sided with the Indians and found Interior Secretaries Gale Norton and Bruce Babbitt in contempt of court for their handling of the case. This has drug out for the last ten years and may take many more. If anyone wants to read the whole articles, write to me and I'll send you copies. dusty ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2006 9:18 AM Subject: [CHOCTAW-SE] Land Script > I have been told that no land that involves Indian land script can be shown on the BLM website.
