Yes, I have heard of Bounty Land Warrants issued for service during the Removal. My ancestor resided Jackson Co AL, served 31 days (plus travel time) on alert expecting difficulty during Cherokee removal. He applied for and received 40 acre warrant under act of 28 Sep 1850 and he received 120 acre warrant under act of 1855. He had no other military service. He probably sold the warrants as he did not use them in AL. Investors went around the country buying up the warrants from recipients. At age 93 he applied for pension for this same service under act of 27 July 1892. He died before pension office acted on application. Pat Finnell

I have a publication from the National Archives regarding land entry files. It states in this publication that bounty land was used to repay those serving in the American Revoution, War of 1812 and Mexican War. What really caught my attention was Indian Removal. Has anyone on this list heard of Bounty land that was given in the case of Indian Removal, and if so, what parts of the country did they move this population? Cyndi
I was looking at a some information from the book by Don Martini. In it, it says that PEGGY TRAHERN was the mother of AMELIA and LETHA. I have it that MARGARET TRAHERN, spouse of UNKNOWN TRAHERN, mother of JEREMIAH and JAMES N. was also called PEGGY. My question is....which one is the real PEGGY or are they both?
This will be helpful. Halito Cyndi: Whenever the British and then the Euro-Americans fought a war, they rewarded the soldiers with bounty land in Indian territory. this would mean the negotiation of new treaties and the Indian was ever being removed westward. It might also be stated that Indians often participated in these wars and their reward was to lose their land, as in the case of the Choctaw and the Cherokee in the battle of the "Red Sticks" and the "War of 1812. If you look at the dates of the wars and the dates of the treaties, you will see that they often very closely co-inside.
