    3. This past week I have put up several new pages that should be of interest Biographies of Muskogee and Northern Oklahoma (not all are Native American) http://www.accessgenealogy.com/oklahoma/muskogee.htm Cherokee Treaties 1-10 http://www.oklahomagenealogy.com/cherokee-treaties.htm Cherokee Treaties 11-15 http://www.oklahomagenealogy.com/cherokee-treaties2.htm Creek Treaties 1-15 http://www.oklahomagenealogy.com/creek-treaties.htm Cost of Emigration to Indian Territory http://www.oklahomagenealogy.com/emigration-indian-territory.htm There is much more there if you check the index http://www.oklahomagenealogy.com/ We have also added Oklahoma Cemeteries http://www.oklahomagenealogy.com/cemeteries-oklahoma.htm Cemeteries of Texas http://www.texasgenealogy.org/cemeteries-texas.htm One of the most interesting articles we put online this week shows what the Mowa Tribe of Indians have faced. I am sure all of us can make comparisons to our own tribes. This was written by Jackie Matte. Extinction by Reclassification: The Mowa Choctaws of South Alabama and their struggle for Federal Recognition http://www.accessgenealogy.com/mowa-choctaw-south-alabama.htm You are welcome to pass the links on to friends and other lists. 2. James, I went to Google and typed San Bois Co Indian Nation Census. I only scanned the 'entries' there, but did see 2 for Freedman on the 1896 Census for San Bois County. Not sure that's what you're looking for. The first 2 entries were for 1855 Census. angelyn ---- James Brown <[email protected]> wrote: > Does anyone know of a source that would show online or library the 1896 Choctaw Nation census for Sans Bois County and/or an email address for Monty Olsen? > > Thank You > James > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    2. James, I apologize........Hughes county is Creek, not Choctaw. When they were given their land, it was in Hughes, maybe the division of counties has changed since then. I know that my father(Hedges), grandfather(Hedges), great grandmother(Trahern) are buried in the cemetery at Non, OK, but Coalgate(Coal county) is where they are found on the census. My father always said it was where he was from(even tho he was born at Non). Thank you, Carol

Hughes County is in the Creek Nation http://www.rootsweb.com/~itcreek/index.htm The above link will show you the boundaries, Hughes County is bordered on the south by Coal County and partially on the east by Pittsburg County , both of the aforementioed counties are in the Choctaw Nation. 3. Carol, One suggestion is emailing Vickie Taylor at the Hughes County site and ask her if she has anyone there that volunteers to do lookups at the courthouse. Hughes County being in the Creek Nation and more that 65 miles from me, my lookups rarely get that far. The first time I saw the Choctaw allotment patent book in the Haskell County Courthouse, the wealth of historical information recorded more than impressed me. Hopefully we will have it up in the Haskell County OkGenWeb site soon. You might also make an inquiry at this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/nations/itcreek.html re anyone that does lookups at the courthouse. Presently I am assistant county coordinator for http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eokhaskel/index.htm# I'd like to hear about any progress you make. 1. [CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST] question about land papers
    2. I have my grandmother's (Josie DeLoach) original papers assigning her land in Oklahoma. My questions are this....One paper is No. 15570, dated Feb. 23, 1906, 9:00am., recorded in book 22, page 478. The second paper is No. 14057, dated March 17, 1906, 10:00am, recorded in book 21, page 393. Each paper is stamped "indexed" and "compared" on the front of the folded paper. Each paper has the land description inside, and the first paper granted her 140 acres. The second paper has a different land description and granted her 110 acres. How many acres were to be given to each individual? Why the two papers? She was born in 1893 and therefore only about 13yrs. old when the land was allotted. My great grandmother (Hannah Trahern, DeLoach, Cartwright) was given 189 acres. Carol (Hedges) Hoyt ([email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) )

    3. Do you know if this information was recorded in a county allotment patent book? http://www.rootsweb.com/~okpushma/ You might look at this OkGenWeb site. The site I referred you to is for Pushamataha County... It is only an example. Scroll down on this site to the " Allotment Patent Book ". I am currently recording the information from my county courthouse for the site that I am assisatnt county coordiantor. There are several very knowledgeable persons on the list, in particular the list administrator. I'm sure if this doesn't help, you'll get assisatnce soon. Best Wishes. 3. Halito Fawn: Well then perhaps I can be of help. Since names were spelled phonetically at that time in history, it is a good likelihood that these names are in fact the same. Also, since they are Choctaw and Cherokee, I have Collingsworths who attempted enrollment in the Choctaw tribe. Perhaps there is a connection. If I had some more of your surnames, we might be able to make a connection. Although I have discovered my family's Choctaw connection, the predominant traditions in my family are Cherokee. That is why I believe that some day I will find an even stronger connection to the Cherokee. The names are: Christopher C. Collingsworth, MCR# 6533, application# 689, 694; Martha Jane Collingsworth (Cox, Hanks), (132), MCR# 6555, application# 701. These people attempted enrollment during the Dawes' Commission. I have many many more surnames from that period.
