    1. [CHOCTAW-SE] Re: CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST-D Digest V02 #259
    2. There are no hurt feelings at all! You are trying to learn about your people and that's good. One of the ways that we teach others is through stories. They aren't meant to be history like the kind of history that is taught in school books, but they are still "true." They explain why things are the way they are. Like our other creation story that tells about how the "Five Civilized Tribes" of the Southeast came out of the earth at Nanih Waiya. It explains why we all lived next to one another. There are also history books about the Choctaw, as you probably are already aware: Angie Debo's book "The Rise and Fall of the Choctaw Nation," or "Choctaw Genesis" by Patricia Galloway, both of which are excellent and more focused on archeological evidence, contemporary manuscripts, and so forth. But our stories are important to pass on! Ahli, Ron

    3. I have a John White in my database that was married to a Nannie Taylor, but I do not have any children listed for them. I do not know if this could be the same family or not - It is a Cherokee Family: This was another marriage for Nannie and I have no children listed for this marriage either. Nannie was the daughter of Charles Fox TAYLOR and Lucy OTTERLIFTER. Nannie TAYLOR born about 1836 Cherokee Nation East, TN clan = Wolf Clan (Nanye'hi) Parents of Charles Fox TAYLOR were Charles Fox-TAYLOR and Jennie WALKER. Charles Fox TAYLOR was granted a reserve in TN on Feb. 27, 1819 I wish that I could be of more help Brenda Messer The Messerville Gazette http://www.geocities.com/windy4448/ Messer Family Inherited Medical Conditions http://www.geocities.com/windy4448/knowninheritedmedicalconditionsinmesserli neage.html

    2. In order to get a CDIB (Certificate Degree of Indian Blood), you must have documented proof of the ancestor who was on the Dawes Roll and his/her relationship on down to the one applying. (birth or death certificates, affidavits, etc). After you receive the CDIB, you will need to apply for a tribal membership card. The addresses for the forms are at http:www.choctawnation.com. 2. I am NOT whining! I just want to know how to unsubscribe to this so I won't have all those E. Mails to delete everytime I open my mail. I do not know how I got on it in the first place except I was hunting family information about Chief Allen White and Tecumseh Homma. I never heard anything from either one. Thank you,

    3. I believe that first you have to get a CBIB card, which you get by tracing your husband's ancestry back to someone who is on the Dawes Roll. Once you get the CBIB, then you will get tribal membership. Surnames: White and Self Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4gC.2ACE/988 Message Board Post: My great grandfather was named John S. White. He was married to Mollie Self. Their children were George Emmett, John, Tom, Bob, Mollie, Sallie, and unknown female White. Sallie White may have been a foster child. George Emmett White was born at Webster, MS. Mollie Self White was born in MS and John S. White was born in Alabama. If there is a family connection please let me know. I have been searching for this family line for over a year and have found nothing. John S. White's second wife was named Nannie. I know that Nannie White lived in Vaugn,LA around 1908. George Emmett lived in Union County AR, Desha County AR, and Claiborne LA. I think that maybe all of the White brothers lived in Claiborne, LA at one time. George Emmett's daughter was May Belle White. His second daughter, Gertrude White, lived only one hour after birth. My mother always told me that Mollie Self White was part Indian.
