    3. Not everything you read in Chronicles of Oklahoma is correct! Forbis LeFlore, b. 1810, d. 1881 and is buried in Boggy Depot Cemetery, is my GGGGrandfather. He was married 3 times, not four. By his first wife, Sinai Hayes, the children all died in infancy. By his 2nd wife, Rebecca Fisher, the children were: Matilda Elizabeth, who married Dr. Thomas Jefferson Manning ( my GGGrandparents), Charles M. LeFlore who married Mary Angeline Guy, Catherine who died at age 12, Henrietta, who married John Donly, and Cordelia, died about 1 year of age. By his 3rd and last wife, Anne Marie Maurer, born in France, the children were: Arabella who married Charles Hill, Forbis, Jr., who married Phoebe Kays, Odile who married Thomas J. Ball, Lucy who married Dr. J.M. Bentley, and Carrie who married Adolphus Edward "Dynamite Ed" Perry. Anne Marie, Carrie, Ed, Lucy and Dr. Bentley as well as an unknown "J.B" LeFlore, infant, are buried in the cemetery at Rush Springs, Grady Co., OK. 3. The Western History Library at the Univ. of Oklahoma has them as does the McClain County Historical Museum in Purcell. Also, I think they're available at the Oklahoma Historical Society. I know they've had them for sale there. You might also check the Yellow Pages for used-book stores. Not sure about local libraries, but would check the one in your area. Call OHS if you're interested in a subscription. 3. No, Only the same rumors as everyone else. I spoke to the Liberian at the Library at Philadelphia and she was making arrangements to get a grant to receive the records from his daughter restore and catalog them and dedicate them to lawyer Weir but nothing doing. The woman still wouldn't agree to anything. There are rumors that range to (1) the records were kept in boxes in the basement and were flooded and ruined, (2) they are afraid of lay suits because of their contents. Our Lea family took a pedigree chart that was said to be two feet long. Of course, no copy was kept. It was said that a Senator Magee had it at one time. His son had lived in Meadville but he had no idea what I was talking about. He contacted his sister that lived in FL and she didn't know where her father's papers were. No progress has ever been made that has shown any NA blood. 3. Out of context, it is difficult to tell the exact meaning. However, "pisa" as a noun means "view" or "viewer" or "gazer." There are other possibilities as well. "Ho-min-ah" looks like a combination of "homi" (sour) and "na" (not). Roughly it might be translated "not sour the view." Skydancer ----- Original Message ----- From: Jackie Matte To: CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, September 29, 2002 10:42 AM Subject: Re: [CHOCTAW-SE] MS Choctaw Deanna, the General Allotment Act (Dawes ACt) was passed in 1887. This is when the tribal lands in Oklahoma was broken up and sold by individual parcels. After it was passed a roll had to be taken. This took several years, well into the early 1900s. Lawyers, knowing about this Act, began looking for Indians to "Help" them get their papers in order to make their claims for land, for a percentage. The Choctaws left in the South, "Mississippi Chotaws" were to be registered--many were not. Testimony was taken for those who could get to the government agency's headquarters-- I believe one was in Meridian, MS. Miss. Choctaws had to prove they were "full-blood" in order to get on roll. I have copies of applications/testimony of "half-bloods" who were rejected even though their grandparents were identified as "full-bloods who did not remove." Evidently, more Choctaws registered than the government had counted on, so only full bloods were registered. Remember the government set up this blood quantum standard for registration purposes. Do you have his MCR (Miss. Choctaw Roll) number? If you have this number you can get a copy of his application/testimony. This process is explained in my book. 3. Deanna, the General Allotment Act (Dawes ACt) was passed in 1887.
