Jackie, Do you have "Old Demopolis Land Office Records & Military Warrants 1818-1860 and Records of the Vine and Olive Colony" by either Marilyn Davis Barefield or Marilyn D. Hahn? She also has "Old Cahaba Land Office Records & Military Warrants 1817-1853". Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me trace a family line. I am inquiring about Nancy Arizona mother of Rutha Brashears. Rutha married into the Tabor line. I tried to trace the line and I am not sure if I am just running into spelling variations, so I am looking at Tabor Tabon Taber. First I would like to know if Nancy and Rutha are Choctaw and next I would like to know if Taber, Tabor and Tabon and all the same family lines. I see the family lines from Virginia, Missouri, Arkansas North Carolina,Illinois, Texas and Alabama, so I am not real sure of the migration patterns. I do know that I am getting dizzy and what I am seeking is probaly right in front of my eyes but I just dont see it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Guys Delorra

Who she is related to on that roll is our question, and can we find out by using her number to work from. FB
I need to expand on my question about how can my niece trace her ancestors. She has her CDIB card, which she just recently acquired. Is there a way she can use her membership number to find her ancestors, working backwards? Starting with a census, or roll, back in the 1800s will not help, as she only knows her grandparents names, both born about 1920. Thanks for all suggestions so far. FB
First step, you must start with the Dawes roll. To get her CDIB she had to have the name of someone who was originally on the Dawes. The cards which name the parent's are online at http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/enroll/index.htm It is listed alphabetically. Once you Know the name of the parent's, try finding them and their family on the 1885 census. It is also online at http://www.choctaw_web.com from there it may be a little more difficult, you may need to see what is available. Also, the dawes application packet often will contain info. Jen, thanks for providing this information. I wrote the History of Washington County: First County in Alabama in 1982--480 pages on a typewriter! Sure wish these lists had been so easily available at that time. Currently, I am abstracting the records of Old St. Stephens in preparation for writing a narrative history. I have abstracted land records, estate papers, deed records, newspaper (Halcyon & Tombecbe`), post masters, etc. We have many of the Spanish records and someone else is translating them, but it is slow going with the old writing. The records on the website you gave will be a big help. Sure wish I could find more about the Choctaw who lived at Hobuckintoopa (St. Stephens) before the Spanish established Fort San Esteban there in 1789. The 1803 Treaty of Hobuckintoopa was signed by the "chiefs residing on the Tombigbee, near St. Stephens." If you know of any sources on the Internet, please let me know.
