Thanks. I'll give them a call and see if I can speak with someone directly. Again, thanks. Lori
The George W. Reed that I have researched was born in 1815. He left Mississippi/Alabama area in late 1830s or early 1840s. He stayed in Texas for a while and came back with another wfe and family. Don't know whether this fits with yours in any way, but the Reed families were in both Creek and Choctaw nations. Hardy Reed was a trader in the Creek nation and Daniel Reed, father of George, was in Mississippi Territory before 1800. This family and sources for research are in my book "They Say the Wind is Red." You can see a description at http://matte.accessgenealogy.com It may help. The enrollment packets might be the same, but I doubt they have all the paperwork on the court proceedings that the National archives has...It's possible tho.. I was very happy to see that there are many affidavits stating that "Mima Morris" Jemima Morris my Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandmother was full blood Choctaw according to the affidavits. Most of the affidavits were from other Choctaw Indians who had to make a notarized X mark. Some were from a couple of names that I recognized from the Mississippi denied roll. Also, I believe I have found my gt gt gt gt Grandfather on the attatchment to the Armstrong roll. He is listed as Barton, orphan son of Ahocatubbee. My relatives name was Thomas B Franklin. I am also researching the other side of the family, but this is what I have found. I'm interested as to how you obtained the affidavits from Ft. Worth. I obtained the enrollment case files for my ancestors who were rejected. The interviews by the Commission on the Five Civilized Tribes indicated affidavits. However, there were none in the files. Also, their attorney was present and stated that he would provide proof within 30 days. That information was not in the file either. Any idea of where and how I can obtain the affidavits and attorney info? Thanks, Lori
I called them and read a letter my family had for years from the Choctaw Nation concerning the denial of one of the family members...there was a case number on it, and they recognised it as such and checked on it, then told me they had a great deal of information....There were about 50 pages...Other family members over the years had gotten bits and pieces from the Archives that were different from what I had gotten, but it was all part of the same case..Don't know why they don't have all of it in one place at the Archives... I don't know about your George Reed, but Dougdemona (I am sure I haven't spelled that correctly) is a bayou south of Ruston, Louisiana, probably in Lincoln Parish. Hope this helps. Kitty
Sandra, I thought I recognized your name, but without the Doolittle, my memory wasn't "jogged" enough. I am glad that I was able to help you and look forward to hearing about your research. In the early morning darkness of November 13, 1833, a shower of meteorites fell over Alabama. That is the origin of the name of the song "Stars Fell on Alabama." According to legend, lots of people "got religion" from that event! From the context of the testimony at that time, I took it to mean that this was the time when Native Americans were rounded up and moved along the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. That's just my thought and assumption. Perhaps it has a specific meaning to someone else. I'd like to hear other views also. Also, I want to thank you for reading Julia's enrollment case file. She was my ggg grandmother. Lori
A VERY good site.....Cms. Meteors and Native Americans.. I found it by using keyword Leonid Meteor 1834. Fran Bolton

Can anyone elaborate on what this means: "about the time the stars fell" under Julia Thompson's testimony? -------------------------------- Q. How big a girl were you? A. Seven years old. Q. That was about the time the stars fell? A. Yes, directly after-wards. -------------------------------- I assume this may have been a meteor shower or comet?? Thanks!
