I would appreciate any help in locating marriage records or any other records for female Choctaws. My ggggrandmother who first appears in MS @1820 was full-blooded Choctaw according to family history. She was supposedly the daughter of a chief. She may have been previously married (she was supposedly a widow) before marrying my ggggrandfather Rogers. Her name was Margaret Aiken or Atkinson or Adkinson. There have been found many similar spellings. Someone thought one was her maiden name and one her previous married name. ??????????????????????? Any help or advice would be most welcome, redfox
Searching for Martha Virginia Martin, born 10-7-1938 in Clovis, NM. Married Richard George Murray, one son named Jerry Richard Murray. Virginia's address at www.whitepages.com is correct and the telephone # listed at that site doesn't answer. Virginia is descendant of William LeFlore and Martha "Patsy" Walker. Her mother or grandmother had tintype of my 3ggrandfather, Forbis LeFlore. Would very much like to contact Virginia to get copy of tintype. Angelyn Cunningham

Hi,I was wondering how you got your land record info. I know that my g-pa had land , and was swindled out of it. I was wondering how a person could get a record of the original grant.
Brooke, using "Choctaw Food" as Keywords, you will find a site that says "Choctaw Food - What foods did we eat in centuries past ?" This site has an article from the Bishinik newspaper that describes foods the American Indians used, and even includes recipes. I'm still looking for a site that talks about Thanksgiving. Fran Bolton

Is there a way to FIND your ancestor, using your tribal card number? FB
Brooke, an easy way to find information on a subject you are interested in is to use the Keyword Search on your computer. For example, type in the words "Choctaws Thanksgiving", and you will see several choices of sites on the Internet that contain those two words. There will be a brief sentence or two that shows how those words, that you typed as keywords, are used. I chose one site, "History of Vegetarianism", because it looked as if it would explain what the Choctaw Indians ate for their Thanksgiving meal. Changing you choice of Keywords will change the list on choices you get. For instance, using the Keywords "Choctaw Thanksgiving", you will get a different list of sites than the list you get using the Keywords "Choctaws Thanksgiving" If you do not find exactly what you need the first time, just change your Keywords, keeping in mind you will get a list of sites that use those EXACT words somewhere, but not necessarily both in the same sentence. This can be a lot of fun! I have learned a lot about the Choctaws this way. Fran Bolton

Look on p. 76 in Foreman's "Five Civilized Tribes" - The small group who joined the Choctaw were the Catawba Indians who left South Caroline in December 1851. The names of the Catawba Indians who were admitted to the tribe on Nov. 9 1853 are listed.
