Basically, the problem is they didn't remove, nor did they remain in Mississippi, they did not retain their cultural heritage, nor ties to the Choctaw people. Of the one's who did remain, only those who were 1/2 or more were recognized by the Federal government, because those who weren't became white citizens. The Cherokee refused to allow thousands of applicant's as member's because they didn't remove. Your preaching to the choir. They then had to live as white as they were forced to live around white people who were openly hostile to Indians. The government goes on a program to eliminate Native languages and they deny John Harper's descendants for these very reasons. Isn't it interesting though that all of these people, living in different parts of the country, had the same story about their ancestors? > > Oklafalaya@aol.com wrote: MCR 6544 > George Barnes age 27, PO Creeks, Ky.
