My father always said his mother (Lucy Lewis Johnson) was Indian. (Choctaw); and her father's name was Charles Lewis of New Orleans. I would love to verify my Choctaw Heritage. Basically, that's all the info I have on my great grandfather on my dad's side. I am not sure if Lucy, and Charles were full blooded Choctaw, or part. So, any info you have to share would be great. I do also know that Lucy migrated to Rosedale, Mississippi. Also, anyone having info may contact me via email. Caution: in my email address there is an "_" which when the system highlights the entire email address it looks just like a simple space " " and that's not correct. Thanks. 3. There were a great number of Choctaw in Louisiana at one time, as there is today. Matter-of-fact, my son, who is graduating from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette this next semester, his little Cajun Fiance is part Choctaw. 3. Having been born 20 miles south of Rosedale, MS. and now living one block from the Vermilion River, you can imagine how I perked up at familiar places but alas these are not my families. There are Indian Mounds about 20 - 25 miles south of Rosedale, Winterville, MS., but I do not have any history on them. Of course the areas you mentioned in LA. Are surrounded by Indian tribes which exists today. Many of the communities of Indians throughout the State of LA. Have established governments and have built casinos in their communities. As for history of the tribes, I am not familiar. The reason I respond is to say: If there is any chance that any of your Indian connections were of the Catholic faith, there is a 135 (?) volume series of books compiled by Father Hebert which document the history of the area where many of your tribes lived. I do not know if there is anything of value in these books, but it would certainly be worth someone checking it out Wanda C -----Original Message----- From: choctaw-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:choctaw-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2007 6:00 PM To: CHOCTAW-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CHOCTAW] Indian Villages in La.
