I am on this list because I was advised that the Chickasaw nation was also included here. If there is a better/more appropriate list, please advise. We have a family tradition of an Indian ancestor. My mother was often told by her father that his grandmother was full blood Indian and his grandmother German making him 1/4 of each. Living in TN, the early assumption was Cherokee. I am wondering if perhaps she was Chickasaw. Please critique my thinking and provide any help. Agness (Floyd- a daughter's death certificate gives this maiden name) Greener was born in 1821 in GA, TN, AL depending on the source being consulted. Her oldest known child was born in 1852 in TN. I have found no marriage for her, cannot locate her and children until 1870 census. At that time, she is a widow living in Henderson Co, TN. Because of the possible birth in GA and AL and also because Henderson Co borders north of Hardin Co which had a known Chickasaw presence, I have begun to think that perhaps she was Chickasaw. In addition, we have discovered that a grandson was living in the "Southern District of the Indian Territory Chickasaw Nation" in 1902. I am, however, having a problem researching for Chickasaw information both specific "genealogical" type info and also general info to increase my knowledge about this particular Indian tribe. Any good books, tips, etc greatly appreciated.
