Hello to the list! I also subscribed to this list because of the tremendous knowledge and insight that I have seen here. The Native American portion of my family is through my husbands side. I did not grow up with Oklahoma history or any knowledge of Indian Territory. I have encouraged my children make their own decision about what race to mark on the census and their school forms and they have chosen Native American. I support that decision but also feel that they have a responsibility to understand what that means. We do not live in Oklahoma and they will not learn Native American history in our schools. Your contributors provide a very valuable understanding to the life and times of many Native American families that could not be obtained anywhere else. I have learned facts and terms and resources and how to be "politically correct"! :) You guys should be very proud of the education and understanding you provide. Kudos to all! Barbara Plano, Texas My husband, children and even my elderly mother-in-law are marking Native American on their census this year for the first time! (Someday some genealogist will be confused by that!).
