Join the crowd Lisa..... I reason I am offended by the word Ignorant, is that when I was growing up non native american, but as a "okie child" we were ref to as those "ignorant okies" from Oklahoma who came to California. My father knew he was NA, but didnt say much unless you probed him. So we became those poor ignorant okies!!!!!!!! I guess we all have some baggage we carry around!!!!!!!!!!!! Well we might have been poor, but not ignorant, considering I was a straight A student all my school years. ( but I guess we did have that Okie accent..hehe) Lets all support each other!!! Most of all, lets preserve the NA heritage, over the years I have seen it slipping away. I also listed myself on the census at NA/chickasaw!!!!! my children and grandchilden did too, except for the oldest grandchild, who is NA/Hispanic, he had that right to choose!!!! to identify himself with his paternal family as well. The 2000 census if the first time my family has actually identified our NA heritage in over 100 years!!!!! Nancy Proud to be Native American
