I am trying to find the Choctaw roots of Eli Forbes who is listed in the Indian archives (Choctaw Vol. 20, page 362). He was born in Miss. and went to I.T. after the Civil War. Eli was born March 21, 1854 in Marion Co. Miss. and died Dec.28, 1894 in I.T. In the archive information, he requested moving from the Choctaw Terr. to the Chickasaw Terr.....because he was a member of the Choctaw Nation. He claimed membership through his mother Rebecca (?) who married William W. Forbes. Eli was granted permission and went to Blue Co. (Love). We think he was living in Jack's Fork before his request. Eli married Harriet Elizabeth Cushman, who was born in 1862 in I.T. We think she may have also had Indian heritage. Her father was Joshua (Patrick) Cushman and her mother Mary (Polly Anna) Harriman. The Cushmans claimed Ill.as their birth place. We "assumed" the state. However, we now think it was the Ill. Terr. in I.T. Our other relation is J.M. Curbo/Kerbo et. al. from Tenn./Ala. He may have been Cherokee. Deffinately had Indian heritage. Was also in I.T. and not an intruder! Carmen McDaniel Forbes
