I am trying to research my great-grandmother's maternal family. We do NOT know where my g-grandmother was born originally, but feel that her family came from the Mississippi Choctaw. The search is complicated by the fact that she was previously married to (and divorced from) another man before she married my g-grandfather - in other words, several different Surnames involved. My g-grandmother's name was Jane Elizabeth (nickname - "Janie") DAVENPORT, b. 9 OCT 1866 (no location) daughter of Barney DAVENPORT and Selina YARCOMBY(sp?). She married a Julius HAMPTON (no info), then divorced him (no dates or locations). She later married my g-grandfather, Elisha Sharp LOCKE, in Indian Territory - Choctaw Nation, on 24 DEC 1894. Jane was supposedly a full-blood Choctaw, but registered under the Dawes Commission as half-blood to avoid having the US Government appoint someone to manage her extensive land and cattle that she owned. I know her Dawes registration number, census card number, but do NOT yet have a copy of her registration packet - "Dawes # 13406, census card 5603 (pg318)". Before I confuse myself (and you?) any further, lol, here is the main name I am needing help with, in all of it's possible spellings: Yarcombe, Yocumbe, Yacumbe, Yacombe, etc. I believe my g-g-g-grandfather's name, from the Mississippi Choctaw, was "Lacheur Yarcombe"(sp?), but have NO dates or locations. or any other info on him. His wife's name was "Mahala" (no last name). I am needing help determining the proper spelling of 'Yarcomby', so that I can find further info. I would GREATLY appreciate any help on the spelling, any info on locations in Mississippi they may have lived, etc. if anyone might recognize the name and already has info. Also, is there a website similar to the NARA site that lists out all of the Dancing Rabbit Creek(?) 'rolls'? Maybe I can find something there... Thank you for ANY help!
