    1. [CHOCTAW] Jackson/Barker
    2. Greetings! I am searching for information on Walter H. Jackson (B 1873, Bell County, Texas D 1960 Temple, Texas) and his wife, Sallie D. Barker (B 1875, Temple, Texas, D 1925, Temple, Texas). We have third hand information that one of them is from the Choctaw Nation. Due to some family stupidity, family members are denying that the relatives were Native American. Can anyone assist me? Thank You, Bob in Sacramento, CA ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

The only Loyd's who were enrolled were: Loyd, John J. 35 yrs old white male, Intermarried Choctaw Loyd, Sarah 21 yr female Choctaw Full blood Many who applied were denied because they could not produce witnesses to testify to the fact that they were known to be of Indian ancestry, in some cases, fault was found with the witnesses that were brought forth. You would have to get copies of the enrollment jackets on your family to determine what the circumstances were. There were also some people who did have Indian blood, but thought it wiser to not enroll. Others denied their blood altogether to make life easier for themselves and their families in a white world. In the 1900 Indian Territory Choctaw Nation Township 8 census my family ,Louis J Loyd, is listed. If you know anything about that census it also has a section at the bottom of the page which lists other information relating to Indians. My family is also listed there. My G Grandfather James C Loyd son age 4, is listed as 15/16 Choctaw. Now my problem... They are not found on the Dawes Rolls. Just by that information I am 1/8 Choctaw on him alone. His wife was supposed to be at least 1/2 choctaw or cherokee but can't confirm yet but thats a whole other mess. My family lived around the Panama/Bokoshe,Ok area. That's in Leflore Co. Who can I contact? Thanks in advance. Wade Crenshaw Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The *Five Civilised Tribes* were the Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek (Muskogee) Chickasaw and Seminole. They were Sovereign Nations, not "indian reservations", with their own Constitutions, Laws and Government. The Choctaw have a well documented history, and NEVER resided anywhere near Virginia. There are no * Indian reservations*, but there was and is the Choctaw NATION. There was no *Oklahoma* in 1887. According to Federal Census Records, Hattie HURST/HUBBARD/JOHNSON was a white woman, born in Arkansas. Choctaw Freedmen are the former slaves (African) of Choctaw citizens.
