My grandmother, Josie DeLoach(Choctaw) married my grandfather Marcus Nelson Hedges. She died in 1925 and had six children. I am just trying to find information on my grandfather even tho as far as we know he wasn't Choctaw. Anyone have any suggestion? No one knows where she was buried or exact date of her death except year and in Oklahoma. Carol
Based on my very few Choctaw lessons, I would say (substituting English words where possible): knit ock whole oh CHEE toe nah YUP pah I'm a beginner, so I'm certainly open to correction. Forty-niner headstones are turning up in backyards in Sacramento, CA. They were from the cemetery at Sutter's Fort which was relocated in 1956. Apparently the City didn't bother with keeping the graves and headstones together and people just took the headstones for yard decorations. These are some of them that have shown up to date: Willie H. Baker - a 2 year old child who died on June 6, 1860 Rufus J. Smith who died at 33 on January 2, 1863 Nathaniel Hurst who died at 30 oin May 25, 1869 Names on other stones that have shown up include Leah Lowell, Frank LaBare, K. Tsugawa, Johnson Beal, L. S. Brown, John W. Innis and Myron H. Blue. There is a photo of one of the stones in the paper that looks like it may be for Leah Lowell above and shows the date as April __, 1880 and her age is 76 yrs. __mos. and 20 days. The graves that John Sutter called the "Fort Burying Ground" were for deceased miners and Native Americans. They started using this location as a cemetery in the 1840's. There were about 4,600 or 5,000 or so remains that were exhumed from the New Helvetia site that were unidentified. The 423 remains that could be identified were moved to the Historic City Cemetery. If you find this on more than one list, I've decided to post it as often as possible in the event that someone is looking for one of these names. Happy Holidays Sylvia Sacramento
Thank Nalora, We appreciate your help. No matter how much or how little experience we have a new situation appears. I used to complain about finding Indians in Indian Territory but this Frank M. Stone slips by us with the speed of greased lightning. I am only thinkful that my father's folks kept better books than did the Stones or I would still be looking for my Choctaw Ancestors. I have to apologize to everyone waiting for transcriptions, or who have asked me directly for information in Missouri or Oklahoma. After finishing stripping, sanding and refinishing my dining room floor (it looks wonderful, btw) It was time to break out the cookie sheets and begin my holiday baking. I bake cookies and candies for approximately 14 days in December, so that I can keep the holiday tradition my grandmother, and my mother (both now deceased) started before me. I mail and give out about 20 baskets of goodies each year, and it is a pretty big job. (But done with love, which is the best gift of the holiday in my opinion) Anyway, to make a long story short, I will begin transcribing again after the holidays. May yours be especially blessed this year. Nalora

We are trying to trace my Great Grandfather Frank M. Stone. We have the births of twins in 1887(one is my Grantfather)in Polk County, Arkansas to the approximate date of death Julie Milligan (the twins mother), finally we have my Aunt Ellen saying that Frank died in Broken Bow. The strangest things have happened to us in our research. When we get to Frank M. Stone our research will take us around him. Like for instance. We found the grandfather of our grandfather was buried outside of Wickes, Arkansas. The dates and photos are the same from the Historical Society as I have in my photo collection at home. We have even found our Great Grandmother but nothing about Frank M. and Julie Milligan Stone. They are the parents that was named in my Grandfather Stone's SS Application. We got lucky and found Julie Milligan Stone and the history of her family backward. She died in childbirth in the early 1900's. This fits in with my oral family history. But, to go forward and learn of where Frank and Julie's children were born and their names except for the boys we know nothing. We would even like to know if he got married a second time and had another family. If we find living relatives and they were researching the family history, we would like to share with them. The only way that we can think of is to try to find Frank M. Stone with a family or without is by going to the Census for McCurtain Co., I.T., to Wickes, Arkansas, to the Northeastern Texas. Of Frank we have no photo that we know of. There is one mystery photo of a Stone Ancestor there is nothing to identify him or his location on the photo. Any way Julie Milligan Stone's family are all from McCurtain County, Oklahoma.
